Let's assume that relocating is the best thing for the Sonics as a company.
You sure you can say the same for the NBA, long term?
This is going to be a hit, we all know the NBA is a business, but to keep all the passion we have about it we must at least pretend there's something more. I don't think it's so smart to remind everyone that all they care about is money.

BTW, if something similar happened in Europe the owner's house would be set on fire...

Well, in America ............... we're a competitive society. We believe in competition. And having an NBA franchise in your city is not a birthright. Those cities with franchises have to take care of their team and not be slackers, or some young, growing, and upcoming city will lure that team away.

Its about competition.

Sports fans, of all people, should be well aware of that concept instead of fearing competition.

Ray Fenton kicking ass and taking names. Good job. You've really helped my arugument in this thread plus you've provided valid facts and well written articles that illustrate just how dire the situation is for Seattle ownership. You've also shown how Seattle has turned their back on the NBA with pics to boot. Thx for saving me time trying to echo similar sentiments.

If i was a Seattle resident I'd be helping them pack.

THINK ABOUT IT.............just 13 years ago you were asked to fund a state of the art arena (Key Arena) with your own hard earned money.

11 years later new ownership is asking you for half a billion more dollars to build another arena. I'd personally be buying Clay and the rest of them cowboy hats and boots just to speed up the process.

2 years ago, USA TODAY ranked the Key Arena as the 13th best Arena in the league. But Clay never had any intentions of staying in Seattle. This is the best excuse he can come up with.

I feel bad for OKC honestly. They'll be the most cheered against team in the league.

New ownership wasn't the first to ask for an arena, so did old ownership. And Bennett only asked for a new arena after Seattle voted for I-91 and killed off any chance for an arena there.

Again, the only way the NBA stays in that region is if the State of Washington funds an arena in the suburbs.

That is what Bennett took to the Washington State legislature. Its a waste of time talking with the City of Seattle.

Proove this ........ your lying. PROOVE IT ........... this is an out and out lie.

I have no trouble finding info on this issue from two years ago in the Seattle media, you should be able to Google this and proove it.

You can't , because your lying.

But Clay never had any intentions of staying in Seattle. This is the best excuse he can come up with.

He told them on the day he bought the team, in the presser they held the day it was announced, that they had one year to put an arena plan in place or he would move the team. They failed to do that.

He's a man of his word, he's moving the team.

I feel bad for OKC honestly. They'll be the most cheered against team in the league.

Guess what bud, save your fricken sympathy , cause OKC does not need it or want it. You better have a competitive team and quit worrying about cheering against someone for some girlish petty emotional reason.

And what are they basing this on .......... a good view of the game ??? Heck, the best view of a game would be at a high school gymnasium .

This has no bearing on the profitability of the KeyArena .

This USA ranking is just this guys opinion on his experience at the game, he doesn't have to pay the bills.

Heck , I bet Wrigley Field rates high among baseball stadiums, only because of the historical significance of the facility.

I wanna see where KeyArena is ranked as the 13th best arena for profitability ? That is what is at issue here . This is what the poster was implying.

The facts, as are proven by the objective sources I've quoted above in the Post Intelligencier article, are that the KeyArena is not generating enough revenue for the City to pay off their bonds or for the Sonics to make a profit.

Something has to be done , the KeyArena is inadequate for either party, but the politics of the area preclude that from happening.

Even Sonics fans in Seattle know that the arena problem must be solved.

Heck, that USA today article is a JOKE ..........

He rated New Orleans number one in the West because the tickets are cheap.

BWAHAHAHAHA

Here's the criteria, this has nothing to do with paying the bills, it just sounds good on a message board when your trying to justify vilifying David Stern and Clay Bennett.

USA TODAY ranked each franchise in five categories, with 40% weight given to the seat and 15% each to parking, entertainment, fan involvement and concessions. Criteria in each category were rated on a scale of 6 to 1. The scale: 6 wow, 5 superior, 4 above average, 3 average, 2 below average, 1 inferior. The criteria, within each category:

Seat: Cost, location and value; comfort (legroom, cushions, cup holders).
Fan involvement: Basketball enthusiasm and IQ.
Entertainment: Originality and entertainment value of timeout skits, dance team, mascot, scoreboard.
Concessions: Concession stands' availability, service and TV screens; concourse atmosphere; hot dog and soda costs; restroom availability, cleanliness and wait time; program cost and information; cost of authentic NBA jersey and cap; ticket line and speed; demeanor of security personnel.
Parking: Cost, safety, time in and out, distance.

which means THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE. Have you been to New Orelans arena? It's state of the art. Even the highest nosebleed looks close AND its inexpensive. This is a guide for American basketball fans. Seattle ranked #13 of all arenas. Why does this make you so upset?

and your "PROVE THIS! THIS IS A LIE!! PROVE IT! PROVE IT!!" was my great laugh of the day. Thanks for making me look smart even on my day off. :D
