Here is an article about the relevance of points in the paint

http://82games.com/pointsinpaint.htm

As far as KG and Duncan I think that best illustrates why KG does what he does and why it is so effective. He shoots the ball better from the field even though essentially he takes 20% less of his attempts in what is considered "inside" by 82games.

Garnett gets his shot blocked 3% of the time, while Duncan gets blocked 9%, and while this isn't meant as a blast so please don't take it that way Big Al leads the NBA in getting his shot blocked. While you can dismiss it a blocked shot ends a possession,no chance of a 2nd chance basket and can frequently lead to an oppponent getting in transition and breaking down a defense.

Add to this that Garnett has a higher assist % and lower turnover % than Duncan.

Low post sounds great, like a power running game, but it doesn't mean a damn thing if you score less and turn the ball over more.

I agree and I think the analogy with the running game is very apt. I agree that some of his moves like his fadeaway is equally as automatic and and harder to block then a traditional inside move.

KG goes with what works - he is among league leaders in +/- and an efficent scorer. I have been very impressed with KG. He has a real sweet stroke and can get his shot off over anyone. To be honest I am not quite sure why he had so much trouble in the clutch in the past. Maybe he just didn't teamates to prevent triple teams.

And the beauty is I haven't seen KG really "clicking" out there since returning from the injury. When he gets really going we are going to be much better.

You play to your match up.

Right. But when you already a top notch passing game, you want your running back to consistently be used in a running role and to consistently be a running threat even when he is not used. He's not gonna help you by serving as a second quarterback. PP/Ray are both great perimeter players offensively. KG has the potential to do more for our offense by consistently being used in the low post to establish him as a consistent low post threat - meaning he's consistently positioned in or around the low post even when he's not getting the ball.

In years past the complaints on this board were centered around we didn't utilize Al Jefferson's post game enough to complement the play of our perimeter guys. People here have pointed out that KG is more efficient than Al in the post and a better passer out of the post, well why the hell is there no criticism for not better establishing KG in the post on a more consistent basis.

That's a big point in that comparison. KG avoids contact and Duncan initiates. The effect is that Duncan is able to draw fouls going towards the basket while KG doesn't. If say Rasheed has 4 or 5 fouls on him there is less worry because KG doesn't go to the basket...avoids contact. But if Rasheed were guarding Duncan he would either have to switch or let Duncan go by and try to avoid getting that last foul.

Boston is a league leader in FTA's attemted at 27.2 but KG only shoots 4.8 a game. Since he is such a good FT shooter maybe he should try to get more contact........
I'm so tired of the typical......

But when KG does go to the line - he can hit his shots. KG's space creating moves are fine for his body type. he is a skinny guy..
