Marion questions heat desire...
Is this the begginning of the end for marion? Is he thinking opting out or is he being the leader miami needs by calling players out?
IMO, he's right. Game against lakers it was horrible to watch. Wade didn't even try, he's our best player and kobe would just blow by him. It was disgusting. I know he's rehabbing injuries but if that's the case sit down. You either play like if it was your last game every single time you step on the floor or don't step at all.
I think is unacceptable from our superstar that just 2 years ago looked to be the best player in the league. Wouldn't let kobe have it his way, and his desire to get back on defense. I still remember that block on kobe when kobe broke wade's ankles but wade didn't give up came from behind and blocked his ass. Hopefully next year he can be back.

I think this season has drained them all of that edge - its hard to care about another loss when you're so far down, and for Wade playing banged up and losing with this bunch has to be mentally draining.. it's great that Marion brings the leadership and attitude from a winning team over here. Also, I think we're going to be thanking Reggie Miller for calling Wade out and maybe relighting the fire. Wade came out hungry yesterday, we'll see if it lasts.

Just the other day with Wade's article from the SS, he said he was in this thing for the long haul; and wants to be here long term. lol
Either way, $ talks. He'll try to see what offers he gets come summer time, and will notice no one is going to pay him the ~$20M he wants, and will end up staying and trying to pick up his value, and then be a FA in 2009.....
And, as Lane said, losing gets to you. And, it's getting to him; given he isn't used to it coming from a perennial 'contender' (can you call Phx that?)

This Miami Heat team is used to losing it this season, playing so many games, and losing the vast majority of them. This is Marion's first few weeks on the league's last place team, having come from one the league's best. How else would he feel being in that type of personal situation? You can feel sympathy for the guy (Marion), but what do you expect of the other players? They've been here all season, losing at this point, has become second nature, a day-to-day thing. Hey, I say the more ping-pong balls, the better for the Heat, the better for Marion.

Marion is a guy that plays with emotion and he is a leader too. These comments he made are what I like to see when we lose. A person that can stand up and talk the truth and try to motivate other guys to play up to their potential(give 110% every game).
I don't give a F what our record is. These guys make millions of dollars to play a game, how can you not try when you are getting paid all that money?
Wade has disappointed me a lot this year in terms of effort and leadership. He has given up too easily in many games, yea against Kobe a couple games ago, he looked like he wasn't even in the same class. Some of it is injury, but some is just maturity as a player and having a never die and never give up attitude. Real winners never give up and somehow find a way to win no matter what. Now, I know we can't have a great record, but we should have won many more games if Wade was giving 110%.
I think Marion saying this stuff is good. I also think we will win close to 50% of the remaining games on the schedule.
I blame a lot of the Heat's attitude on Shaq. He always talks about relaxing and waiting until playoff time and that rubbed off on Wade and other guys. He has 4 rings, so they probably think he is right about not working hard all season and just coasting til playoffs come around. They should all have looked up to Zo a lot more than Shaq IMO and we would never have been this bad.

He's the one that wanted to be in one of these situations, be a good player on a bad team for recognition purposes. He deserves to be on the Heat, I hate players like him.

Wade is not a vocal leader and he will never be. It just isn't in his personality. He said so himself a year or two ago. He prefers to lead by example. I don't think Duncan is either, but his teams have always been good so no one ever questions him about it.
It's a good thing we have Marion so he can speak up. Might be a lost cause this year but in the future it will be an asset to the team.

Wade has publicly said he needs to get in shape to hang with marion, hopefully he's serious. If Zo comes back next season I think the intensity him, marion, and if haslem is him self will motivate the rest of the team to follow suit and give 100%.
I was just wondering if his comments were the beginning of the end. Hopefully heat takes it as a challenge instead of a public team cancer.

That sums up the season.
Thats when Wade should have stuck up for Marion and make sure people know its Wade's team.
You don't have to be a vocal leader to get pissed off and explode once in a while after losing. Its just something that happens naturally if you really care about the team and winning.
If my teammate(2nd best player on team) that just joined us spoke up and had the balls to say this stuff and then somebody laughed in the background I know I'd let those people that laughed know something if I was Wade and was watching that happen.

how you find passionate players who want to win more than anything and bring heart and hustle ever game in today's NBA is beyond me... guys like Zo, Haslem and Marion have it... I even see it in Banks and Quinn.. I think Wade has been pulled from all sides and has lost his 100% balls to the wall attitude for the game. Not saying it's not still there deep down somewhere but he is more a corporation than a player, unfortunately for him. More guys want to either get paid and be happy with their checks (Williams and Antoine last year, Damon Jones), like to party (Ricky, Posey, Smush), or have the heart/hustle but no talent (Doleac, LUKE!). At least Posey brought it on game days.
I don't know how Riley goes about sorting it out, as you don't know a guy until he's there with you. He also isn't blameless - he needs to change his song if the people aren't dancing to it.
Besides upgrading talent, Heat coach Pat Riley said last week ''the important thing is we have to find the right people who will fit into the culture. There are people who love this kind of culture'' of hard work, discipline and a defensive disposition. But Riley said, ``You always wonder if it's too harsh, is it unrealistic for today's society. There are a lot of young players who don't want to be controlled.''

Its obvious Marion is frustrated about the losing because he's use to winning. I wish his teammates will take his word as a challenge. I believe what he said will turn out positive for the team.
But what worry me is the write up to Marion at the NY Post
But what worry me is the write up to Marion at the NY Post
Dan Fegan is an agent known as a hard to deal with because he ask a lot of money for his clients. Its not worth extending his contract for an averqage of $17m per year even the $15m per year offered by the Suns. I doubt Riley will extend him a 3 years $45m contract because thats the type of money you give to someone like Elton Brand. Riley is known to love players that gives him a post pesence which I think he will offer the money to Brand instead of Marion. Miami needs to keep their payroll open for next year in anticipation of Marion signing elsewhere.OK, so Marion is insecure, selfish at times, didn't always get it, wasn't as physically, mentally and defensively tough in the playoffs as his fraternity would've like a four-time All-Star to be, can't create his own shot, groused about not getting enough touches, appreciation and a long-term max extension.
This is why Marion, who turns 30 on May 7, makes important money - $16.44 million this season, $17.8 million next should he decide not to exercise his right to opt out and become a free agent.
Obviously, I don't get it, either. Apparently just a couple teams wanted Marion. The Celtics reached out for him before Kevin Garnett, but supposedly got scared off when a three-year extension for $45M was rebuffed by agent Dan Fegan.
Truth is, Danny Ainge never made a formal offer to the Suns (for Marion) or Fegan, who had been talking to Phoenix about a $17M per extension.
Truth is, Marion did not want to leave the Suns at that time (before last June's draft), believing they could win a title. He changed his mind later in the summer after his ego got bruised when Steve Kerr met with him and Fegan and told them Tim Duncan and Garnett were the lone players deserving of max money.
"If you don't think I'm worth the money I'm making, then trade me," Marion responded calmly.
