some fans are getting too spoiled by major acquisitions..not every transaction can involve Jason Kidd, or Shaq, or Gasol..every team needs role players, and when it involves a contender, they prefer role players with experience..

Sam Cassell gives leadership, clutch play, and a different dimension that Rondo doesn't bring to the team..2 completely different players..

PJ Brown gives them a big that can knock down the open jumper, rebound and give them some post D..

Brent Barry is one of the best set shooters in the NBA, and he's a solid playmaker..

Theo Ratliff was SOLID at the beginning of the season..he can still play solid D and rebound..he's a tough player with experience..Detroit's only true C..

Chris Webber..I don't know..

lol @ the lack of respect for cassell. sam proves people wrong every times he switches teams and i'm looking forward to him doing it again.

idk what there is to be so mad about. god forbid d12 gets hurt in the playoffs, who would you rather have as insurance: mario kasun or theo ratliff? i rest my case.

^

Beginning of the season...

8.2 pts 4.5 rebs 2.8 blks 50% fg in 26.7 mpg.

His games in February before being bought out...

3.5 pts 3.0 rebs 56% fg in 13.3 mpg.

When called upon, he can still produce. In short minutes, he can rebound and defend at the center position. No team would turn down depth at center for the playoffs.

Veteran leadership/experience.

Also, Cassel has championship experience, something only ONE player on the Celtics roster can reasonably say, James Posey.

Signing Cassell was a great move by the Celtics.

Yeah but come on are any of these guys difference makers?

Is Barry really the difference between the Spurs winning or not winning the west?

PJ Brown, who has not played all year, is he going to put Boston over the top?

All of these players are bench guys, i'll give you guys Cassell, although I am not a fan of his chucking, but everyone else? Like I said earlier it reminds me of a few years ago when people would get all excited about Shandon Anderson signing to be the Lakers 15th man.

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

PJ Brown and Sam Cassell are still very good players in limited minutes. They were GREAT pickups by the Celtics. It's rare that a team can pick up free agents so good this late in the season.

I really don't see your problem with this. If there's an available player who can contribute solidly a couple mins a game, why wouldn't you pick him up? For the Celtics, it just adds options for Doc. House is playing well, but the dude can not handle pressure defense to save his life. The first game against Detroit this year exposed this, and could have come back to bite us in the playoffs. Cassell now gives settles that weakness, and he's also an outstanding freethrow shooter, so he'll probably play in the 4th when teams press and intentionally foul. As far as Brown, Powe and Davis have played well. However, they're both 6'8. If Brown can stand on the floor and be 6'11, I'm happy.

Sam Cassell would be the Magic's best point guard.

I Think my Magic friend feels threatened and mad that they didn't get Cassell.

Cassell is not washed up..... This guy was till good this season

Brent Barry is not washed up.... Good playmaker, and gives you solid minutes

seriously, he actually knows how to play PG unlike Nelson and Arroyo who seem very good at chucking up shots.

Brown and Cassell bring veteran presence and playoff experience, something Baby/Powe can't give you. Eddie House is also not a PG, he's a catch and shoot gunner. Brown is known to be a very good post defender and will really help us in the playoffs.

When/If the Celtics sign Cassell they'll have the deepest most versatile roster in the whole of the NBA.

They have players to defend any type of player in the NBA with Rondo checking quick point guards, Sam and Tony Allen guarding bigger pg's, Ray and Tony Allen guarding 2 guards, Pierce and Posey guarding SF's and small quick PF's, KG guarding PF's of all kinds and some centers, Perk/Davis/Powe/Brown all have good strength and or size/length to guard PF-C's...

Offensively they have shooters: Cassell, House, Ray, Posey, Paul, and KG... slashers: Rondo, Tony Allen, Pierce... playmakers: Rondo, Cassell, KG and Paul Pierce, post scoring: KG and Perk, offensive rebounders: Perk, Davis, Powe...

And the team is chalk full of veteran experience and HOF talent... I'd say that there is no way to understate the importance of the Celtics being able to bolster an already pretty talented bench with two solid vets in Cassell and Brown.
