Cardinals @ Cubs Series Thread
Friday Day Game: Braden Looper vs. Ted Lilly
Saturday Day Game: Anthony Reyes vs. Jason Marquis
Sunday Day Game: Adam Wainwright vs. Wade Miller
Some thoughts: Ted Lilly has been the third best pitcher in the game with the qualified 15 IP (F. Hernandez, M. Hendrickson). So today we have that fun to look foward to. Marquis makes his first start against his former team so I expect him to pitch fairly well.

That's what I like to see, the Cards outslugging the Cubs on a day when the wind is blowing out to left in Wrigley.
OK, I'm going to take a break from snidely bitching about the Cardinals' lack of hitting to say something nice about Chris Duncan's fielding. That's a couple of really nice plays he's made now in left field. Maybe he can become a fixture out there for us.
The TV replay showed Cedeno a good six inches off second base with Eckstein applying the tag on that play in the ninth. But Cubs fans in the bleachers figured they had a better view from 200 feet away and threw all that stuff on the field.

Finally we beat the Cubs the past few years it seems like we always lose to them, although being one of the best teams in the league the past few years.
I was actually surprised they let the Cards play with all that crap in the outfield, after Cedeno slid right past 2nd. I was just waiting for a ball to get hit deep and one of our OFs to trip and get hurt.

We're paying Looper the same thing we pay just about all of our starters. Not much now, but a WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY to show what you can do and then cash in on your next contract. With another team.
(I think we are paying Loop something like $4 million this year, and have him signed through next season. But I didn't look it up; somebody correct me if my memory is faulty.)
I'd sure like to see a good start out of Reyes this afternoon, we haven't gotten one out of him yet. Although he's only had two starts, and he got screwed over last time out because they skipped his turn in the rotation and he hadn't pitched in forever.
Still, we need him to keep the score down. I don't care if it is Jason Marquis we are facing, we only score runs on Sundays this year. Today is only Saturday.

This is a great site for contracts just to let everyone know about it.
For Looper we're paying him like this: 06:$3.5M, 07:$4.5M, 08:$5.5M

I guess that was our annual crazy-azz game at Wrigley. It's always interesting when we go up there. Except for last year when we kept getting swept. Glad to get out of there with two out of three this time.
Also, please sign my petition. I am petitioning the league office to have the Cardinals play double-headers on Sundays for the rest of the season. We've scored double-digit runs three Sundays in a row. The rest of the week, not so many.

This stat from today's game I saw on Yahoo sports caught my eye:
Maybe we can get the middle of the lineup untracked and can start banging out some hits. Good to see Albert come through in the 10th. What was Adam Wainwright's prob today?
Rolen finished 5-for-6 and raised his batting average 68 points in one day from .200 to .268

Wainwright's problem was bad location with his pitches, but it also didn't help him much that there was an 18 mph wind blowing out to left field. We have at least one game like that every year at Wrigley it seems like, and when we do, the final score is usually something like 12-9. Wrigley plays like a Little League park when the wind is blowing out like that.
We'll see if our Babe Ruths can keep it going back in St. Louis, where no gales are being mentioned in the weather forecasts.
Pujols looked like Pujols today--all three of his hits were rockets.
