Jeff Van Gundy "Lakers WILL win the championship"

Post#1 » by Tommy Trojan » Mon Mar 3, 2008 1:54 am

Those of you that watched the game might have heard what Jeff Van Gundy said about the Lakers. "Not only are the Lakers the best team in the league, but they WILL win the championship."

I really love hearing non Laker fans complimenting the Lakers. You know they have no biased in the statements. Takes a coach to know a championship team.

Way to go Jeff

He said the same thing when his knicks went to the finals in 99. Who cares. If anything it makes us look bad if we dont win it all.

You should have atleast picked a bundle of teams to bet against... 1 vs 15 isn't good odds for betting.... you probablly could have gotten away with picking 6 teams.

What is the point of this thread? All laker fans believe they will win championship

nope. the diagram is there for all to see. slow down the pace. keep the LAKERs under 100. and crash the boards.

without bynum, the road still runs through san antonio.

I put 50 on the Lakers but the bet was LA has to have Odom Bynum Kobe Pau all healthy in the playoffs except for the kobe pinky thing if one of them misses one game then the bets off.

It has to be a friend, betting websites don't have conditions...

No, they won't win it this year. Not until they can hold teams to around 80 points, defend the three, and stop making mental mistakes down the stretch...

I think they are good enough offensively to win it all but I don't think they will. I hope I'm wrong. They have shown that they can play good defense in spurts but not consistently enough to shut people down.
San Antonio and Detroit have the ability to shut people down. They have a better shot at winning the title this year IMO.

Have to say I have my doubts, too. Not that this group, if kept together, won't win the title eventually. I'd be disappointed with anything less than two and absolutely thrilled with three.

But as for this season, the Spurs are going to be so, so tough. I lulled myself into thinking for a few weeks that this might be the year they finally start to slip. Unless injuries are an issue, it just isn't happening.

If they end up with homecourt...man, I'm not sure I see anyone beating them.

his comments about the lakers last second play calling were pretty funny too. something about phil jackson running the same play since the jordan days.

I think Bynum needs to be back and healthy. We still rely too much on Kobe, especially down the stretch, instead of consistently running our offense and playing defense. Over several playoff series, I think there are limitations to that.

We still have a chance without Bynum, but we're probably not favorites until we actually have him on the floor, protecting the basket and providing a tougher post presence.

I mean, when guys like Joel Pryzbilla and Eric Dampier are affecting the game in a major way, it demonstrates that we have a certain weakness that'll allow heavyweights to knock us out.

With Bynum back, that's not going to be a problem.
