Down 3 and Defense fouls ...

Post#1 » by Triangle Theory » Mon Mar 3, 2008 12:03 am

Obviously it is a legal play. I have compared it to a kicker being iced right before a snap with a few secs left in Football. We saw the controversy last year with that.

What are your thoughts on this? Does it show no respect for the Game.

Thoughts?

If it's a reg. season game, hell no.

If it was up to me I'd foul and send them to the line for 2. Let them beat you by free throws not by making a wide open 3.

In the west, a regular season game is almost like a playoff game. 82 playoff games.

With a 3 point lead I'd rather just play defense.

It depends on the situation. If it was like today when Mavs were down 3 and had no timeouts left, then it's the smart thing to foul. I don't see how that disrespects the game.

It makes the game less interesting, but if you have a good FT shooter on your team, since you'll be up 1-3 points and getting fouled after they shoot FT's, then I guess it's a worthy strategy.

Yeah...it's part of the game, it's not illegal, it's a smart tactic.

it's "gay" until the team that is down wins, then it's "great coaching and execution"...

I was at Game 7 in 1995 between the Rox-Suns - the Mario Elie blow the kiss 3 point shot game. Rudy T employed this strategy on about 3 straight possession and it worked to perfection. The Suns would have hit a 3 if he'd have let them take one but he chose to not allow them.

I say use the strategy in the playoffs but not in the regular season.
