Who would you rather start a team with Paul or Howard?

Both are the premier players at their positions right now and both are young. Who would you rather have to start and build a team around?

IMO Chris Paul could be as good as Magic Johnson. Maybe better.

Both of those comparisons are ridiculous. Neither player has the size to be compared to Shaq or Magic. That said, Howard doesn't need to be Shaq. He's already the most dominant player at his position and he can bulldoze his opposition in similar style. Paul, while good, is just another 6'0" PG. You go with the big.

I said "as good as Magic Johnson".

Not style of play or anything. CP3 is most reminiscent of a prime Isiah Thomas. And that's as of right now.

How is he "as good as Magic Johnson" if he can only play one position? Yes, style of play makes a difference. Especially if you're going to compare someone to Magic.

This is easy to take Howard. There are few perimeter players that you take over Howard. Kobe and Lebron are the only players I take over Howard.......

I think it could be argued that Chris is more valuable now, but Howard still has so much room to grow.

I love Chris, but I want to build around a dominant center.

frankly i don't see it, because this is his 4th year in the league, and he still relies on his length and athletic ability to score in the post.
i didn't see much improvement on his foot work, post offense, or his fundamentals.

i take Chris Paul.

What? His scoring has gone up and up every year, his moves around the basket are getting better and better, and most importantly, he's learning to pass out of doubles, which is leaving him in more single coverages and letting him dominate.

If he's not improving, I'd like to know how he increases his numbers EVERY year :crazy:

Not only that, but his defense is still going to get better.

i disagree.
hes big men that lack fundamentals, he didn't improve his fundamentals at all, sure he leads the nba in dunks, but what will happen when he lose his athletic ability.

If you think his footwork, passing, scoops, hooks, spins and layups around the rim haven't improved, then I don't think you've watched enough, because you can easily see how much better he has gotten. He's just as good an athlete as he as always been, so how are his numbers going up?

Howard's fundamentals have improved, don't kid yourself. I don't think people know just how raw Dwight was coming into the league. He was strictly a face up big man in HS who used his shooting and athleticism to dominate... he really didn't have a post up game at all. The improvement has been gradual, but it has come, and he's still only 22 so there is plenty of room for improvement yet to come (potentially).

Remember: guys like Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, etc. didn't have the most polished games out of college, and they were around the age Howard is now with years of collegiate training. It took them several years of being in the NBA before they became the players they would ultimately become in their primes so this notion that Howard can't improve certain areas of his game is blasphemy.

Even if he never improves another aspect of his game, he's still a near 22 PPG scorer, dominate rebounder and excellent shot blocker who demands a double (sometimes triple) team on a regular basis. Yeah, I'd take that.
