I have no problem and what he said. Some guys play for the money, some for the women, some for the competition, some for the attention, some to win, and some just because they love playing. I actually know a few NBA players (not stars) and NFL players(grew up with them) and that's the truth. Everyone doesn't play to win a ring.

having most of the city hate you + being forced to play something that's not your game = not all that surprising that he'd rather have fun than win a championship under those circumstances!
wait i mean **** LARRY HUGHES UGH HE'S A SELFISH MONSTER

Based on some of your replies, it looks like you think hating your job is a requirement.
As I said earlier, Larry Hughes never denied giving 100% and I think he does out there. He just doesn't want any championship he wins to come while he's not contributing what he wants to contribute. I'm sure Rasheed has a lot more satisfaction from his ring than Darko does, you know? Had Hughes won it all in Washington, where he wasn't even really the man, I'm sure he would've counted it among the best days of his life. Get off Hughes's case and be glad that instead of being in it for the money, the fame or the women like some guys are, he's in the NBA because of the second letter and only that. I'd love to have a guy with that attitude as a complementary player on my team, and that's what Hughes is anyway. Mind you, not at that $14M ticket but Hughes's market value isn't really the subject of discussion here anyway.

Hardaway made a 'negative' comment towards homosexuals, which seems to be a BIG no-no in today's day & age.
Yeah, I know, but my point was, it isn't really 'don't hate because a guy is actually being honest about his opinion', it's just because the people who like honesty also don't disagree with his opinion. The people who are ripping on him do
Also, the 'I don't want to play where coach says, I care about me having a good time more than the team winning' attitude for someone that's overpaid can be seen as negative or a 'no-no' in pro sports

While the concept might be similar on the fore-front, at the same time it isn't.BullSoxChicago'sFinest wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

Ones a very touchy subject in todays society, while the other is a simple sport concern, if you even want to call it that. -- Two different things entirely.
Now, had Hughes made a similar comment about homosexuals or anything along those lines, he'd be going through a very similar treatment that Hardaway went through....

I know this is a little harsh for a sport's fan forum but why should someone place a goal like a championship above his happiness?
Competitive traits in human psyche are sad when taken to the extreme...
this is why as a fan i completely agree and understand.
but if youre a gm building a championship team, you probably wouldnt be too happy.

Try to say what he did at most jobs and see how that goes over. "Oh I don't care about the role you want me to perform or being as productive as possible, I'm just here to have fun!"
The problem with Larry is that if he is not willing to play a role that the coach and team feels is best to help them win, then why should anyone else on the team play their role? Already, on the Bulls, Hughes chucking has seemed to have the effect of causing Ben Gordon to start taking shots outside of the offense because that is what Larry does. I'm sure Tyrus Thomas would have fun shooting some 20 footers and maybe trying a three pointer, but he doesn't do it, that is not his role on the team.
For everyone defending Larry, I hope we trade him to your team next year.
As for Ben Wallace's comments, he is probably worse than Larry because at least Hughes was honest while Ben is just full of it.

It's good that Hughes actually spoke his mind instead of giving some politically correct BS answer... He was Cleveland's scapegoat, and nobody likes being a scapegoat. Whenever LBJ was out Hughes proved he could be effective but Mike Brown didn't want to adjust his game plan to accomodate Hughes' talents.

Rarely. He took some tough shots, but moreso because he had to at the end of games, than because he wanted to get a bunch of shots. Especially early in the game, Gordon rarely strayed from the team's gameplan.
Last year he was a especially efficient scorer with a higher FG, 3PT, and TS% than Ray Allen. As a 6th man, his job is to come in and score and that is what he does.
Even so, Gordon is a shooter that hits his jumpers at a eFG% of 48%, while Hughes is merely a scorer that likes to take a lot of shots. He hits his jumpers at a 41% clip. Not exactly the guy you wanting throwing up 15 jump shots like Larry just did yesterday vs the Cavs.

And potentially upset the mighty Bron-Bron? I think not..
Mike Brown isn't that stupid.
Even after their so-called enormous trade, their offense is exactly the same.
Give it to Bron-Bron and get out of the way
