Are you being serious? By "This Team" do you mean as currently constructed or with Drew and Ariza back?
If the Celts get Cassell after this signing, and have homecourt advantage they will probably be the favorites (unless drew and ariza come back from injury at full strength and the chemistry works well)

you guys are delusional.. the lakers are better and deeper than the celtics.. sam cassell can barely walk let alone play playoff basketball.. ray allen is a streaky shooter and mediocre defender.. everyones talking about how paul pierce will dominate lamar odom but who said lamar necessarily has to guard pierce.. how about a match-up of kobe and pierce?? kobe clearly has the advantage..
phil will tinker with different lineups -- one possibility is:
bynum, gasol, walton/rad, kobe, and fisher (w/ kobe on pierce and walton/rad on ray allen and lamar off the bench).. i say lakers beat celtics in 6 games (if they can even get out of the east)..

Disagree, one reason it won't help............Chauncey Billups will post his no defense havin behind up all day.crackjack wrote:If the Celtics can acquire Cassell, then they'll move ahead of the Pistons.
Hell Sam might not even make it through the season, he's always hurt. The Celtics signing all these OLD men won't help.

The question for Lakers fans is when do you think Bynum will be back near 100%? Will the new look Lakers have enough time to gel (with Bynum back in the lineup) to the point where they can beat an in sync Spurs team? Can Bynum become the type of defensive force around the rim to make the Lakers take the next step up to becoming a championship level defensive team?
The other concern I would have is do the Lakers have enough consistent 3 point threats in the starting lineup?
Kobe is going to get his and so will Gasol. Farmar and Fisher will execute their roles well IMO but I'm not sure where Odom fits in when Bynum comes back. Teams will be able to pack it in inside to shut down driving lanes and to slow down Gasol-Bynum.
As far as Celtics-Lakers it would be a great matchup and a great series. I think that the most important things to note are: One, Rondo has a huge quickness advantage on Fisher, Two, Although Kobe is GREAT the C's have 3 solid defenders on the perimeter in Ray Allen (who seems to step up his defensive intensity for Kobe), Tony Allen, and Paul Pierce, Three, KG and Perkins matchup very well defensively with Gasol-Bynum, and Four, the Celtics bench (with Cassell) is MUCH, MUCH stronger than LA's unless Lamar moves to the bench as the 6th man.
Cassell, House, Tony Allen, Posey, Powe, Davis, Brown trumps
Farmar, Vujacic, Walton, Radman, Turiaf
Finally, the Celtics already play championship level defense and the team has had more time to gel together. Plus the Lakers are going to have to face more tough challenges coming through the west vs. the Celtics potentially facing weak opponents in the first two rounds.

When I said Cassell's signing would help, I wasn't talking about him as a savior. He's going to be a key piece to the puzzle.
Also, unless there's been a new rule instituted that requires the other 8 players on the floor to leave the court so Billups can battle Cassell in a one on one game to determine the outcome, he can still help.
In regards to your comment about "OLD men", keep in mind that "OLD men" played a key part in the Lakers championships.
You're not going to win NBA titles with a supporting cast of young AND 1 type of players.
