devin harris = stephon marbury
Any one else see this.
It's like harris came here to prove to the league and the mavs that he is a great player. But his being great is scoring and getting his points instead of leading the nets some where.
Yes I know its only the first 2 games. But last night against the spurs when he jacked up that three from 5 feet back on the break when we had players running with him, I thought of marbury. The only difference marbury would have tried to go to the basket and not jack up the three. But instead of passing for a dunk, he took a very very long three.
I like harris's scoring. I like his defense and ability to bring energy to a team. But his offensive game is more a 2 guard then a point guard. He averages 3.4 assists per game for his career. with the most being 5 assists per game. With the mavs people. He should be getting a lot more with scorers like that.
hell marcus williams averages 3.1 assists per game for his career and he only plays 16 mins.
I know we need the scorering. but with kidd gone the only ones that can really set up guys are vince and marcus. Rj is good but he looks for the basket more, as he should.
we need harris to use his speed and set up other players. not use his speed to get to the rim against 5 guys because he doesn't pass. we had that guy already. (starbury)
harris is young and has alot of talent. I think he can learn to set up others. But he has to try. In these first two games all I saw him do was get his points.
we shall see what happens.

Harris isn't Marbury at all.
Marbury was a career 20-10 player who couldn't play defense.
Harris, while having lesser offensive numbers, is a solid defensive player.
His assist numbers are more of an indictment of Dallas's isolation offensive system than anything else.
Also... it's been 2 games.

... I've had this nagging image too. But everyone's been so happy with him, I wasn't going to be the first one to point it out.
I hope not, and if even if he is, I hope Frank can coach him and thus this team to success.
Barring that, Thorn might be able to do something about it. Shift DH to the 2. Get a big PG, like Hinrich to play beside him to guard 2s and run the point. Since VC is our 2, we'd need to trade either RJ or VC.
Stille, there are plenty worse things to have than Marbury at his prime. And just because Marbury went off the tracks, doesn't mean DH will.

You know what, I was actually thinking that too. Like imagine if we fall into the lottery and shock everyone with the #1 pick, draft beasely (K-Mart) and then trade devin (stephon) for a great PG like CP3 (Kidd) the next year. Sound familiar? Haha I know this would obviously never happen haha but my mind was just wondering in school today and thought of that.

I would marry Rod Thorn if we got CP3.

Just a guy that puts up nice stats but doesn't make his teammates better or play good D .
Great point. I'm not into bagging players. But anyone, anyone who publicly says they can't play with KG cos of his contract is a bonehead. They could had about 3 titles by now and he would of had his legacy(ego) set for all time.
Why does it take thes pro-players like ten years in the league before they realise the only way to get thier ring is to sign with a veteran team for the vet min....... Oh yeah everybody gotta get his. You gotta get the money first.
Can Frank coach the kids?

I think arenas is an idiot player too..and much more expensive...I don't think he'd play well with carter and RJ.
Please don't make devin-marbury analogies. it scares the hell outta me. He was red hot, but i do notice him passing on some passes he should make, but that could just be that he's not acquainted with everyone just yet.

Not even 3 games in and you've got people wrongly comparing this kid, who has done nothing but average a point a minute since he's come to this team, to a boneheaded locker room cancer. Unbelievable.

You heard it here first, folks...
Yeah, because we need two overpriced one dimensional players on this team. Maybe we can pick up Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury as well. Is Glenn Robinson available?
Here's the players available potentially as free agents this offseason that I would consider trading Devin Harris for.
1. Elton Brand
2. Shawn Marion
That's it. Gilbert won't improve our team, and a Gilbert-VC-RJ trio would be worse than the Kidd-VC-RJ trio was.

Marion expires next year and will demand max money he already made that clear .
They'll both demand max money.
I was pretty sure that Marion expired this year, but if you can show me where you're getting your info from, I'll take your word for it... was actually looking for a solid 2008 FA list but couldn't find it.
I think that either of those guys would be great additions to this team.
We can't sign them outright, so it would probably take a sign and trade along the lines of Devin Harris + Boone + Filler to sign either of them....
But you're telling me that a team of:
Sean Williams / Krstic
Brand or Marion / Swift
RJ / Our draft pick
VC / Hassell
Marcus Williams / Darrell Armstrong / FA pickup
wouldn't be a much tougher team than our current squad?

I'm pretty sure he will demand at least the same amount of money if not more if we'd try to resign him and he's not worth that mich.
Eh, he's worth at least as much as Carter is.
I like Brand more for our team anyway.

1. The list of 2008 free agents and teams with spending room has been done

2. Re Marion, I'd wager he opts out. It will be the same sort of reasoning as Vince Carter opting out. Further explanation is in the thread linked above
