whose more to blame? billy knight or woodson?
knight gets my vote. i know that ownership issues has prevented some free agent signings or trades in the recent past however, the draft choices were completely up to knight and his staff. Skipping over cp3, deron

sorry about the interruption. skipping over cp3 and deron williams and ray felton is unforgiveable. woodson has his share of problems reaching all the young players here in atl but when management ignores a critical and obvios team need to pursue a pipe dream(marvin could be next superstar) i can't put the full blame on the coach.

they both suck. Bottom line is Woddson isnt a good coach and needs to be replaced. A bad Gm can run an NBA team with talent as long as he stays put and does nothing (Please Use More Appropriate Word).
A bad coach on a talented team has no where to hide. If he sucks the team suffers. You need to be more active as a coach and have the players believe in your game plan.
Woodson needs to go as the Hawks have graduated their talent level and need a coach with a resume to match.

Well, I really have to go with Knight on this one. Don't get me wrong, Woody hasn't been a good coach at all. In fact I think having Bibby has shown us some of his weaknesses even more and I've already gone over the problems with player development, moral issues, and clashes with players.
Regardless, having a core of Chris Paul, Joe Johnson, and Josh Smith in the eastern conference would have made this team pretty close to elite. Johnson would be in a better place right now in terms of physical condition, Smith's development almost certainly would have been less painful with a real pg around, and the subsequent moves to fill the void at pg (Speedy, AJ, Acie) wouldn't have been made and those resources could have gone elsewhere. The Shelden pick was a waste (Shelden did not land us Bibby, expirings did) and Knight has never made good use of our second rounders.
As bad as Woody has been, he hasn't handicapped us for the future like BK has.

Perfectly put.
It's like answering who should be in a worse circle of hell.
Woodson impact is merely to take joy away from individual games and a season at a time. BK's big blunders will impact this franchise and city for the next 15 years. That should get him the spot in Satan's mouth.

say what you want about the drafting, this team should be doing better than this. even with lue as our point we were suppose to cruise into the postseason. this team is underachiveing big time. sad thing is that billy (for everyone who hates the guy) has tried to fix the problem and been denied by his own boss! what bad moves has he made in the past year. we're still screaming about something that happened 3 yrs ago.

For all the griping about Billy Knight, he still has done a better job than his predecessor. Not that that makes him worth keeping, but we have definitive proof that someone can do a worse job.
Can Mike Woodson say the same? No. What might Kruger or Stotts be able to do with what the Hawks have now? Probably a heck of a lot better than Woodson has.

You are missing the point we are trying to make here.
No one likes to dwell on the Paul/Marvin debacle but that one draft blunder completely changed the course of this franchise. As evildallas said, Mike Woodson can be replaced... Woodson can help be the difference between the 6/7 seed and the 9 seed. Paul though, well Paul might be a top 5 player in the league at a position of need.
Other things BK has blown: the entire summer of 06' was a complete disaster. He had to fill in the hole he had created at PG so he signed Speedy to 6 a year... he had to get some big man depth so he drafted Shelden Williams with the 5th overall pick and then signed Lo Wright... every move that summer was a complete and utter disaster.
When Woody gets replaced (sooner the better), that'll be it. When BK gets replaced, we can't go back and redo those offseasons.

They both deserve a poop sandwich.
Woodson gets more of a finger sandwich, one of those tiny ones with a toothpick in it. With some cat poop, nothing too gross.
Billy Knight must eat a 6 foot long poop hoagie, with no cheese or condiments or even bread. 6 feet of loose human feces, from an old man's bowels. Preferably mine, or Steve Belkin's. In public.
(The ASG gets a bucket of elephant poop dumped on their collective heads, every morning, for the next several years until they sell the team)

point is knight isn't the reason we aren't in the playoffs we had a good enough team at the beginning of the year and we've seen woodson get schooled by the opposing teams coach in at least 10 of those losses. we win half of those games and we're coasting into our first playoff berth in over 8 yrs. instead we're allowing the highest scoring team to score a season high on us and allowing a team that scores 5 pts in a quarter to beat us by 7. all the while we're playing a guy over 40 mins every game wearing him out before the end of the game and we're telegraphing our sub patterns. he isn't even calling timeouts at the apporpriate time and his plays are abyssmal. i'm actually surprised when we get an easy basket. who hasn't seen this?

^^^ Yep. Woody would suddenly look like a much better coach if we had CP3.
Lunar we are capable of making the playoffs in the East, and we still might (and should). But that doesn't make this a good team, the East is absolutely terrible. We are not a "playoff caliber" team. Is Woodson separating us from where we are and Washington's position? Maybe so. But that doesn't exactly mean that BK handed us a playoff team, he handed us an inconsistent team riddled with holes that can compete in a terrible conference.
If this team is in the West with the best coach in the league we are on Sacramento's level at best. And even that might be a bit much.

I don't even look at it like that. Mike Woodson is bad, there is no doubt about that. He is a bad coach... I have trouble thinking of things he does particularly well. He is a decent defensive coach, but nothing special. He certainly doesn't coach defense nearly as well as a JVG or Fratello.
That being said, Woody didn't force BK to pick Marv and Shel or sign Speedy and Lo.
