NBA.com Power Ranking - Clutch City #2

Post#1 » by ChinaTown » Tue Mar 4, 2008 4:11 pm

And another good news!!!

Off: 107.6 (16), Def: 102.5 (2) -- Maybe you thought the Rockets would beat the Wizards and Grizzlies after Yao went down. But, admit it. You thought they would lose to the Nuggets on Sunday. Well, you forgot about the Rockets' defense, which has a ridiculously good 92.1 rating in the three Yao-less games.

I've missed the last three (Yao-less) games; partly because I haven't had much time to watch, but more so because it'd be too sad to watch us without Yao. Someone fill me in on a few things.
a. How's our tempo? Leaning towards Phoenix (pre-Shaq Phoenix) - or towards Detroit?
b. Have we ran anything out of the low-post?
c. Defensively, do we look more active after replacing Yao with Dikembe and C-Landry?
d. Would Chuck (Barkley, not Hayes) still say we lack an identity?
I need a detailed report on my desk by two.

fans should care less about the power ranking
they are nothing but weekly standing
unless they are putting us in the conference final based on that
i think we should stop looking at them

Power rankings are really only good for getting an quick blurb update on some of the things the team has been doing or outstanding notes.

That said, I can't say too much, I liked them and thought they were a big until I was like 21-23 or something. 3 cheers for jadedness and recognizing that recognition is not accomplishment (except in advertising)!!!!
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

A. I wouldn't say we're leaning towards either Phoenix or Detroit, rather, we're caught somewhere in the middle. When there's a fast break opportunity we get out on the run, but we don't force it, and we still play defense (unlike Phoenix). We certainly have been running though, and we've been converting turnovers into fast break points. When our shots aren't falling we struggle in the halfcourt set, but the good thing is that Mac has been driving to the basket aggressively. His driving has resulted in him either dunking it or dishing it off to Scola/Landry for an easy 2.

B. Not much out of the low post. Scola has done some work down there, and against Denver we actually stuck Mcgrady on the elbow, let him go to work, and he produced. We either have to begin establishing Scola as a permanent threat, or Adelman has to find some way to work around this if we make the playoffs because it'll be a problem.

C. We've been VERY active on the defensive end. Mutombo has been swatting balls (he had more blocks vs Denver than the box score gives him credit for), and we've been stripping lots of balls. Scola had a career high 5 steals vs Memphis, Battier's been outstanding (shut Rudy Gay DOWN and held Melo to under 20). Overall, Mutombo's defensive presence has really inspired us to play some balls out defense.

D. Yes Barkley would still say we lack an identity. That's not relevant to how we're playing though...Chuck can just be a d*uche sometimes.

Anyways back to the topic...

Don't look into the #2 ranking too much. Yao went down for the season and most "experts" had written Houston off, but we push the win streak to 15 and do so playing great basketball on national television. If we drop a couple of games, then it'll be back to, "Can Houston survive without Yao?".

Basically, everyone is loving our story right now and we're actually backing it up thus far by playing great basketball. However, once we show signs of mediocrity then it's going to be back to the same ole.

Thanks Roosk.
Its good to know that Rick is trying some things, putting McGrady on the elbow and letting him operate. And I'm glad we're trying to get some easy baskets. Hopefully the inspired play is here to stay. Sometimes a guy gets hurt and the team comes out fired up for a week or two, then deflates. I don't see that happening with us, because our vets are hungry (McGrady, Battier, Alston) and our rooks are energetic (Landry, Scola). Never thought I'd say it, but Dikembe is our x-factor right now; we'll go as far as his interior defense / aging body allows.

Luis Scola <<< is where the pressure is. Mr. MVP of WCB should take over in low post scoring. Carl Landry maybe a cowboy but his nothing but All-American D1 experience let's him off the hook. Between Scola and Landry, who is going to bring the reign more down in the block? Let's go guys.

power rankings are all just media hype..... i am glad to see us @ the top but like Roosk said.....when we lose a couple, we will hear everyone questioning our abilities without yao...... tmac put it best the other night saying that " we are still a good team, even without yao"

Return to Houston Rockets
