NBADraft.net is generally pretty legit when it comes to tracking traded draft picks; on their site it says that Phoenix 2008 first rounder is protected, yet it doesnt say what the protection is, it says that 2010 is unprotected. In any case the Suns better hope that their pick is lottery protected because the Suns could legitimately fall right out of the playoffs.

It is actually quite amazing that there is a possibility that PHX end up in the lotto with 50 plus wins while Atlanta gets into the playoffs with a below .500 record and in the process sends out a pick in the 15/16 range to PHX while Seattle gets a very unexpected high draft pick( 14 or 3,2,1) compared to expectations of a low 20ish pick.

Just proves what having a bonehead like Kerr as a GM can do to help a team in some need. Frankly I think the sonics need as many bright spots as possible.
Also I'm getting down right depressed at the thought of those eastern playoff match ups. Its also sad knowing that Stern most like will do nothing to address a stacked west and depleted east.

Don't blame Kerr, blame his owner for handcuffing him into making a crappy trade. They saved 16 million dollars in the deal, which is basically all Sarver cared about.

The Suns really don't need this pick as much as people think because they get Atlanta's pick, and I think the chances the Suns miss the playoffs are incredibly low. As it stands, they are 4 games ahead of Denver, but only 2.5 out of first. So I would be TOTALLY shocked if Phoenix slides behind Denver.

You have to give him another year or 2 so he can continue to put his stamp on this team. For the most part he is working with the pieces that were already there. He obviously made his first MAJOR change with the Shaq trade. Before that he showed his approach to the draft was different than the previous regime by actually drafting rookies and keeping them. The jury is still out on Alando Tucker and DJ Strawberry although it's pretty amazing that Strawberry has played at all this season considering he was the #59 pick last year. If he continues to develop Kerr should get major props for that pick.
The Atlanta pick in upcoming draft will be crucial for this team. Hit big like the team did with Matrix and Amare at #9 and the team has a very bright future. They have real needs at sf and pg but considering the overall age of the team they can afford to go bpa.
