Ivan SAID
Judging by the folks I've spoken with the last few days, I think it is realistic to think that given two or three weeks of confidence-building in practice, Arenas could be back by the end of the month when the team embarks on that five-game road trip out west

The youthful Wizards fan inside me wants to jump up and down with enthusiasm, but the old Wizards fan on the outside has experienced too many emotional ups and downs to let it happen.

Sounds good. We'll see.

I'm sure we'll have Butler in the playoffs. Butler could probably play right now. He's just staying off of the hip longer to make sure it heals properly. I'm also not too worried about Butler reintegrating into the lineup. We all have seen how well the team plays with Butler on the floor.

I just don't know about Arenas. If he comes back, will he be 100%? And if he isn't, do we really want Arenas at 75%? I want the guy who can pin his ears back and drive the line at will. I want the guy who always converts on the fast break. I want the guy who nails a buzzer beater 3 at least once a week.

Interesting.

I take the opposite view, that we're more likely to be without TJ
than GA.

Hopefully we'll have both but it just seems like Gil is closer right now.
Still lots of time left before post-season. The important thing is to win
on this homestand.

Hopefully that means caron is farther along than we think rather than both of them being out for the duration...
Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

Wow. I'm not sure how many more "2-3 week" quotas I can take.

I don't think Gil will come back during a road trip. He would either come back before the trip (March 23rd @ home vs Detroit) or wait until after the trip to come back. I think after the trip, which would be April 2nd at home against Milwaukee at Verizon. Caron might as well wait until then, too.

Man I can't wait to get Agent Zero back and Tough Juice. This could be he team that can go to the finals. One last push before the free agent market, we never know who is going to be here next season (ex:Larry Hughes)

My only conern is all this talk of being scared means that when push comes to shove, he'll opt for the long J instead of going strong to the rack.

We're hard to beat if Gil's drawing 5-10 fouls. If Gil's hoisting 20+ bombs, we lose.

If my memory serves, he was tentative to start the season, then started driving, then got hurt. Therefore I'm concerned that he'll be reluctant to mix it up, which is what he needs to do.

Also, how does the bum knee effect his D? Will he be able to stay low, move leterally like he should? We'll see!

One more thing: with the Wiz limited late-season practice schedule, Gil's going to have to get in game shape by playing. It's not like the beginning of the year when he could practice with the team 6 days/week. Just throwing that out there. He'll join the team on or before the roadie. Else there's no point in coming back at all.

i was just looking at some of the recaps from last year's games against the magic and ran across this quote from keyon dooling after the december 29 game:

"Well, they've got a little bird down there named Gilbert who's not too bad,

My Predictions

0% chance you see him in the next week
20% chance you see him with in 2 weeks
90% chance you see him in limited minutes with in 3 weeks

Return games DET or Portland March 23-25th

CB get re-evaluated this week and I predict a good eval.
ETA on CB March 11th but if we are winning without him, he rests a little more and or plays limited minutes.

Prediction confirmed.

There remains no timetable for Arenas' return to the lineup, although he said is targeting the West Coast road trip that begins March 25.

NiteOwl wrote:Management should tell Gil to wait until Caron is ready to get back on the court. Without Caron and only a semi-healthy Gil, Wiz get smooshed in the 1st round anyways. Why risk further injury, especially if he isnt mentally in the game?

In the long run, it should only drive down the price of his next contract and the Wiz can go a long way toward keeping him happy by giving him damn near a max deal, basically saying, "you are our guy and we know you will get back healthy." I think its win/win with the exception of a short playoff run this year. Again, without a fully healthy Caron, AJ and 90% Gil, the best the Wiz can hope for is squeeking out a 1st round win - and that would only happen if they don't face the Celts/Pistons/Cavs.

I pulling for CB to be ready by the MIK game. That would be way ahead of GA

My one prediction about when Gil might return is that it will be unpredictable. He could come back next game, in a month, or time it to come back the same game as CB3.

Exactly. They interviewed AJ and that is basically what he said. Something like, it's just gilbert, you could see him tomorrow.
