OT. Beno Udrih.....

Post#1 » by lakeshow248 » Wed Mar 5, 2008 5:54 am

Man, this guy impressed me w/ his quickness and finish and he also shoots the three very well.... I can see why Bibby was let go....However it seems that he is a free agent on all the things I've looked into....He is from Slovenia and did anyone catch the handshake w/ Phil J at end of game when he has talking to Sasha......Not saying that the Lakers will get him or they even have room for him but overall I was really impressed, I can't believe Minny wavied him w/ the likes of S Telfair starting......

Spurs haven't been on top of the foreign prospects letting go of Scola and Beno, each of whom have been very productive for their respective teams.

Although I must say Beno is like the 6'3'' Lamar, not being able to drive right.

No, it's a matter of the luxury tax. The Spurs don't want to pay it.

The have the best foreign scouting team in the league.

The Spurs liked Udrih a lot, in fact, Pop encouraged Theus to pick him up, that he was a heck of a point guard.

Udrih struggled a bit sometimes, but that's natural when minutes are inconsistent. He's a guy who needs a lot of burn, who needs some time to get into rhythm.

I'm just upset I dropped this steal in the realgm fantasy league. Didn't think Sactown would have been able to deal Bibby this year.

:noway:

And no, I don't think we're going to sign him, for the same reasons San Antonio let him go. You don't want to pay double for his salary when you've already got point guards.

And Sactown is going to pay him - that's why they let Bibby go. He's their PG of the now and future.

It looked like he was chucking up a lot of shots and missing at the end.

So, your idea of a "perfect triangle guard" is someone that's under 6'5" and can penetrate the defense with ball handling skills?

Being able to play in a triangle and being a "perfect triangle guard" are two different things, no?

IMO John Salmons would be an ideal fit rather then Beno... Salmons could be in the Ron Harper role... He is a tall PG that handles the rock, slash, make plays, defend, and etc... But I doubt the Kings will relinquish him easily...

That's where the confusion lies.

My definition of perfect is more demanding than your's.

When I think of "perfect", I'm thinking of someone that can do more than just "play the triangle well".

Beno is exactly what he is and last night showed why we cut him from the team. He's a great offensive weapon however he tends to have too many brainfarts and his D can be sorely lacking. Pop has no patience for guys like that and he knew he'd thrive with a younger team not competing for a ring like the Kings were he can at least develop faster as a starter. he was way behind parker and Vaughn in SA.

Exactly. What can you say about a guy who lost his job to Jacque Vaughn? Who was let go mainly to save $1 million in potential luxury tax? Udrih is too inconsistent to be a full-time starter in the long term. Petrie and Theus are giving Udrih plenty of run to see if he can become consistent. If so they can sign him to a below-MLE deal. The future is truly in the draft, where they should be able to get Ty Lawson, Russell Westbrook, or maybe even get lucky and get either Derrick Rose or Jerryd Bayless.

there was no need to bash telfair in this post. he's been playing very very decent ball lately.
