I really wouldn't mind adding D.J. to our team

If we made the playoffs, the likely point guard available would be Darren

We wouldn't draft Mayo. No way. No how.

Obie wouldn't want him. Bird wouldn't want him. This team wouldn't want him.

Bad comparison to use to justify your point, but in general a sound argument.

If Augustine had a higher shooting percentage, I'd probably care much more.

Official General Draft Talk: ESPN Draft Generator

Post#5 » by Dunthreevy » Wed Mar 5, 2008 7:39 pm

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/lottery2008/mockdraft

I've shuffled it probably 20 times and the P's have shown up with the 10th pick each time and picking DJ Augustine each time. Can't say I'd be anything other than thrilled with that outcome. DJ is phenomenal and not to mention is 1st team Academic All-American. We need guys like that around here.

I changed the name of this thread to allow for more general draft talk until the end of the season, where we'll likely let more draft topics loose on the board. However, I thought it wouldn't hurt to give a forum for people to start talking about general needs or general ideas for this draft for the Pacers or the NBA at large. - Scoot McGroot

I don't know what you're doing, but on my 3rd try I got the 1st pick and we got Derrick Rose.

I would be thrilled with that outcome as well. But.

His shooting percentage is low. He's kind of small.

I did it 8 times, each got the 11th selection and selected DJ Augustine. He's a solid player. But a star? I've heard nbadraft.net and another expert on a blog compare him to Travis Best.... DraftExpress has him as Jameer Nelson (better verison).

Are you serious!? I've done this thing probably 50 times now and the P's have gotten either the 10th or 11th pick everytime and taking Augustin

In all seriousness, having the 1st pick this year could be one helluva mind blow. Sure, Derrick Rose seems like a perfect fit at PG and seems like he could be a next great PG. Sure, we have JO at PF and then Shawne and Ike able to play there as well. Sure, both Beasley and Rose have had "rumors" of certain "character" flaws.

But, if we get the number 1 pick, we might have to look hard at picking up Beasley and either playing JO at center, or trading him for the highest draft pick(s) we can get. A combo of Granger and Beasley could be one hell of an amazing combo for the next decade. Use Shawne, Ike, and JO to try and locate another pick high enough in this draft to pick up DJ Augustine.

Well, I just landed us the 3rd pick as well where we got "stuck" with Eric Gordon.

Damn! I guess we'd just have to deal with that....

No joke, I still haven't landed the Pacers higher than 10. The guy in the office with me tried it and got #3 (Eric Gordon) his 2nd time trying.

Why is everyone in love with Eric Gordon? He is an okay basketball player. There are a lot of players out there better than him. He turns the ball over way too much.

He's a game changer. He's very clutch and wants the ball in big time minutes.

All hints of him being a star player. Even when he has a horrid night, like 3 for 15 shooting, he's still got 25pt because he can drive to the hoop like no other and always draws the foul. He picks up easy fouls and goes to the line and kills teams that way. To a point where teams double cover him to stop him from scoring or getting fouled, and he has the vison and sense to pass it off to the open guy. I love Eric Gordon and i'd be a dream come true to see the Pacers draft him.

I would give my left nut to trade for a late first either this year or next to draft Tyler Hansbrough with the pick.

I'm telling ya'll this guy is amazing. I have never seen a better college player in my life. Considering I live in NC and watch the ACC that should say a lot. He rebounds and plays with the intensity of Jeff Foster, he has the post skills of Ike Diogu, and the jump shot of Troy Murphy. All that and hes a great free throw shooter. He is under sized for a PF, but he runs in the UNC fast break, so he'd still fit our offense perfectly. This guy is going to be good. Maybe never great, but a steal for a late first round pick.

On a side note, it took me forever but I finally landed us the #2 pick and Derrick Rose.

I'd much rather have Rose than Beasley. Rose is my dream scenario for this year, if we can't get rose I want DeAndre Jordan.

Also, I'd take Lawson over Augustin, Lawson would be the fastest player in the NBA his first game.
