You have to take Howard here, as great as Paul is.

People were taking Deron Williams over Paul too last year.

I think it had a lot to do with Paul's injuries and that this board usually picks players that are playing better during the time of the comparison.

You don't have to take Howard after he's been called out publicly by his coach for not playing hard every game and disappearing.

Paul is the better leader of the two as well. I understand you don't pass on your dominant C, but I'm willing to make an exception with Paul, and how good he is on both ends of the floor.

Sorry but thats a (Please Use More Appropriate Word) reason, Dwights played every game for 3 years +, FIBA, China this year.. and he gets called out for taking off a couple games (he didn't even take it off, he still played D just on some plays he didnt hustle), I guarantee you every player can be called out on that but they arent because we NEED him to impact the defense every game.

Soul, it is what it is. If you're going to take the money of a franchise player, you have to take criticism. You can just dismiss his criticism because he's played a lot over the past three years. To counter that, he's still young, and is arguably in the best shape of anyone in the league.

It was his own coach that called him out.

I do realize that I'm taking the dissenting opinion in this thread, and I can fully understand why people would take Howard over Paul. Let me clear the record on that first.

If Howard thinks that he doesn't still have a lot to learn in the league, he will be mistaken. If he feels that he can just rely on his god given gifts, he will learn the hard way.

I for one look at a player like Paul, and see his work ethic, I see his desire to win, and more importantly I see his leadership skills at an elite level despite him being a youngster. I know I can put my money all in on a player like Paul, and I'm going to win.

Howard on the other hand is a freak of nature before he's a basketball player.

Quoting this because nobody read it.

Paul has: David West (All-Star bigman), Tyson Chandler (12/12 on 60% shooting), Peja Stojakovich (leads the league in 3's)...not to mention really solid backups in Pargo, Bonzi.

Dwight has: Mediocre PG Jameer Nelson, Mo Evans starting at SG, and 18/5 Rashard starting at PF. The only other player on the Magic I'd take other than Howard is Hedo. Their only decent backup is Arroyo.

Paul has the better team, which is why he has the better record.

I'm just saying I think you read into that a little too much. The Van Gundy's are notorious of speaking what they feel, they aren't Sam Mitchell - "We need more shats!". He wanted Dwight to takeover D because we're like 24-0 when we hold the opposition under 95. He said he wants to be the best PLAYER of all time, and obviously knows he has to work hard to do it.. this isnt about Paul cause I agree hes a great young player, but to say his work ethic and desire to win is above Dwight's isnt right.. we dont know any nba players desire to win, but Im sure most of them do.

Which team would improve more- the Hornets with Howard instead of Chandler, or the Magic with Paul instead of Nelson?

Quoted because people seem to think that they can determine a players work ethic, or how much they want to win. We don't know what a guy is thinking, or how hard he works, we only can go by what the team says(and every team says there star is the hardest worker).

All we can go on is what we have, both players keep improving tremendously, and both are great young leaders, and I don't think you can criticize either one of them for effort.

Iunno

Hornets:

PG = Pargo
SG = MoPete
SF = Peja
PF = West
C = Howard

Magic =

PG = Paul
SG = Mo Evans
SF = Turkoglu
PF = Rashard
C = Foyle?

I'd take the New Orleans lineup, personally.
