Half a game back!

Post#1 » by 76erinSJ » Thu Mar 6, 2008 5:19 am

If we win Friday and Wash losses we will be just haf a game back of the 6th spot. How crazy is that?
Andre Miller is a bad 3pt shooter.

You know . . . It's actually becoming very realistic that the Sixers could eclipse Washington for the 6th seed and play Orlando in the first round.... Does that sound at all familiar to you? It should.

If this scenario indeed happens, the symmetry would be absolutely poetic. In 1999, the upstart #6 Sixers ended their 8-year playoff drought and traveled to Orlando to face the #3 seeded Magic, who were heavy favorites behind Penny Hardaway, Horace Grant and Coach Chuck Daly. Energized by the City's buzz, this youthful squad used its speed to upset Orlando 3-1 and advance to play Indiana in the second round.

It was the beginning of an era. We all felt it. It was incredibly galvanizing for the city. Looking at the current incarnation of youthful, hopeful Sixers got me a little nostalgic. Perhaps history is repeating itself:

Some more parallels to 1999:
- Rookie wearing #21
- One of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the league
- Kevin Ollie on the bench (or was this the year after?)

They need to make the move now. Because once Areanas comes back, Washington is going to be decent.

Man....those were the good ole days. I don't care what anyone says, AI was the man. Exciting, crowd pleasing, all over the court. He did things that shocked everyone in the arena. It was amazing to watch. And the most successful years came when Larry Brown simply put 4 guys who could defend out there and let them run around giving AI the ball. I kind of wish we still had that, but alas, AI had to grow up and lose some of his magic, and we could no longer afford to put 4 defenders out there. He needed scoring help. I sometimes wish that the Sixers could get him back in the next 2 years, to play the 2 position next to A. Miller, and make a big playoff push with Daly, Miller, Iggy, and Young out there. Iggy, Daly, and Young play good D. Miller plays as Snow and finds AI open. Iggy helps score the ball......pipe dreams? yes. but championship? maybe. lolz.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane with those vids.

I am pushing for the Sixers to get the 6th seed, but with their upcoming schedule, it's not looking so good.

We'd have to find a way to go at least 2-4 after the Bucks game where we got:

3/10 @Boston
3/12 Detroit
3/14 Chicago
3/15 @San Antonio
3/19 @Denver
3/21 Magic

Of course, I think the Sixers can beat Chicago and Magic, then get an upset or 2 in the other 4 games, so LET'S DO THIS!

We will end up in the 10th or 11th spot after the 3/10-3/21 games.

Seriously... what have any of those teams done to make us fear them? It was a little harder before when we wanted this team to tank... but I'm now starting to figure out who is a Negadelphian and who is not. I'm not saying that everyone should go "dond" on us... but saying the Sixers will slip down to 10th or 11th in this conference is insane.

We're actually IMPROVING guys....I know it's shocking to see the Sixers on anything but a downslide....but it's happening.

We have to give them the benefit of the doubt, I think, and assume that they aren't a fluke until proven wrong. We can't keep assuming they'll lose to better teams and then downplaying it when they make liars of us. It's way too opportunistic of us. If they win games we think they should lose, we should give them the credit they've earned and move on to the next one. It's like we only want them to improve on our terms...maybe we're not as smart as we think
The JB-S System....Zero Defects.

I don't mean to be a dick but can someone please correct the spelling of the word "half" in the subject. Looking at "haft a game back" makes my brain hurt.

Looking at who we play in the next period of games and 2 1/2 games from 7th to 11th I believe I don't see why it's insane at all. There is nothing wrong with forming this opinion with who we got ahead of us.

What makes my brain hurt is people who can't accept a different side of a story or point of view kinda sad. What is the point of a forum if you can't accept others opinions?

Well, there's actually a 4 game spread, and here are the facts that you need to reconcile:

NJ upcoming:

Fri 07 @ NO
Sat 08 @ Dallas
Mon 10 @ Houston
Wed 12 vs Cleveland
Sat 15 vs Utah
Tue 18 @ Chicago
Wed 19 vs Atlanta
Fri 21 vs Denver

Indiana upcoming:

Thu 06 @ San Antonio
Sat 08 @ Cleveland
Tue 11 vs Seattle
Fri 14 @ Dallas
Sat 15 @ Orlando
Mon 17 vs New York
Wed 19 vs Charlotte
Fri 21 vs Minnesota

Atlanta upcoming:

Fri 07 @ Charlotte
Sat 08 vs Miami
Mon 10 @ Orlando
Wed 12 vs Houston
Fri 14 vs LA Clippers
Sun 16 @ New York
Mon 17 @ Washington
Wed 19 @ New Jersey

Chicago upcoming:

Thu 06 vs Cleveland
Fri 07 @ Boston
Sun 09 @ Detroit
Tue 11 vs Utah
Fri 14 vs Philadelphia
Mon 17 @ New Orleans
Tue 18 vs New Jersey
Thu 20 vs San Antonio

And Philly:

Fri 07 vs Seattle
Sun 09 @ Milwaukee
Mon 10 vs Boston
Wed 12 @ Detroit
Fri 14 @ Chicago
Sat 15 vs San Antonio
Wed 19 vs Denver
Fri 21 @ Orlando

Current standings

Philly -
NJ 2
Atl 3
Chi 3.5
Ind 4

So, lets assume that Philly completely chokes and only wins 2 of these next games (Seattle and Milwaukee), putting us at 2-6,

For us to be 11th, 4 teams would have to pass us, and this would mean that Jersey would have to go 5-3, Atl will have to go 6-2, Chicago 6-2, and Indy 7-1

So, really, truly, your opinion is that this is going to happen?

I mean, lets just look at NJ. Assuming they beat Atlanta (which then makes Atl needing to win 6 of their other 7 games), NJ would have to win 4 of these 6 games:
@Dallas, @NO, @Houston, vs Utah, vs Cleveland, vs Denver, @Chicago. Tell me with a straight face this is going to happen.

I'm not gonna bother breaking down the other 3 behind us, because their odds are even worse. Just look at this, then tell me again that you believe the Sixers will be in 10th or 11th on March 22.

Anything can happen in the NBA. What facts do I need to accept that you form your opinion and are trying to jam it down my throat like a little kid? Jersey could win as many as 7 games Indiana the same. Atlanta could run there games. Chicago could win 5 games. I see the Sixers with a good chance at 2 games and a outside chance of only 1 game. Will the games play out like that who knows. But to act like it couldn't is just silly.

You're the one who said the Sixers will be in 10th or 11th place by March 21.

I showed you what has to happen for that to be a reality.

Of course, NJ "could" win 7 games. Yes, it's mathematically possible. All the other teams could win the games they need to as well and Philly could be in 10 or 11th. I could also win the lottery this week and secure a date with Jessica Alba.

So, instead of giving me "it could happens", do you really believe this IS going to happen?

You can always admit that you didn't look at the other team's scheds and you can admit this is not going to happen, its OK.

Why would you want a date with that prude? If your going to win the lottery get something useful what a flawed reward.

If your willing to accept it could happen which you seem dead set about. I'm willing to accept that I ment could and not will or would from the first post. But from the baiting argumentative way your going about this I doubt that would please you. I don't need to admit to anything i'm not going to back off from what I said because your trying to bully me into it someone is a internet thug. It's not beyond the realm of possibility and the kool-aiders don't want to listen because they are drunk on the playoffs.

edit for playoffs... Which we would get run out of faster than Spears next visit to the nut house.

There's a difference between jamming your opinion down somebody's throat and looking up facts that support your side of the debate and presenting them to your........ debatee.

He looked up what the schedules are for the rest of the teams behind us and pointed out they have a tough schedule also.

IMO, we might drop a game or 2 in the standings, and it isn't unreasonable to think that we might fall to the 9th seed (if you're pessimistic like that), but I think/hope that we can surprise a few people and get through that tough 6 game stretch 3-3, maybe 4-2.

The nets upcoming 6 games are harder than ours- and on the road, so I don't see the catching us anytime soon.
