Man, you are such a homer in this thread. I think your are missing Yao Ming in the "Superstar" column unless you think he's not even a borderline superstar. Everything you have said in this thread is your opinion so don't insult others trying to defend your opinion. Just tell them this is what I think and just acknowledge theirs. There's no need for this going back and forth.
Ex. My opinion - T-Mac > Arenas
Now you would say, I accept your opinion, but I disagree with it. You don't have to tell me people they are wrong because they aren't. If you tell others they are wrong, you are wrong.

Yao Ming by himself probably generates more revenue than the entire Grizzlies franchise.
He doesn't deserve max money my ass.

Shaq, like Yao, was very healthy for his first 3 seasons.
Shaq's first 3...
92/93 = 81 games played
93/94 = 81 games played
94/95 = 79 games played
Yao's first 3...
02/03 = 80 games played
03/04 = 82 games played
04/05 = 82 games played
Excluding Shaq's first 3 years, he has averaged 59 games played per season. Excluding Yao's first three years, he has averaged 53 games played.
Shaq is the definition of a max salary player. I believe Yao is as well.

I'm no doctor, but if I had to guess, I'd say it was part heredity (exclusive to Yao) and part height (exclusive to most big men).

Production wise, you have a point. But, from a marketing stand point and all the money Yao generates from an international standpoint, he's worth it, to an extent.G35 wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
I don't care if he generates more money than Halo 3.
I said production on the court also.
Last 3 years of Yao's career
2005 57 games
2006 48 games
2007 55 games
Playing 2/3rds of a season for the last 3 consecutive years ain't max contract in my eyes.......

Yao is worth max period due to the position he plays and the money he brings in. Yao is a world wide brand and since he is a center and its a lack of centers he is worth more than an all-star guard because it's so many of that caliber.

Tell that to Rockets fans when they have to face SA or the Lakers IF they maintain their playoff status.
Either you want to make money or you are here to win. I mean Donald Sterling makes a lot of money as the Clippers owner because he doesn't pay big money to free agents but they never win.
Yao isn't doing anything on the bench.........

we'll, in LAKERLAND, that crap dont shake down. we dont hang division banners. and this guy doesnt deserve a max contract. again, he will most likely get it, because everyone is a superstar, and the league is watered down with average to a little above average players . . . claiming to be otherwise.
but hooraaay, some of you can be happy with that.
