Arenas is the better scorer and clutch performer. McGrady is the better passer, defender, and rebounder. Personally I'd rather have Arenas at this point. Amazingly enough, McGrady's shot selection makes Arenas' look good.
How is Arenas a better scorer when he has ZERO scoring titles and Mcgrady has 2?

So how do you explain Houston being a considerably better team than Washington last season with Yao out?

McGrady is superior to Arenas. It's that simple. If it weren't for the injuries he sustained earlier this season, it wouldn't even be debatable.

It's so good that this thread is created while the Rockets are on a 16 game winning streak and Arenas hasn't played this season. Timing is everything.

T-Mac is just better right now. Face it, it's not timing.

Arenas is a much better scorer. He's so much more efficient. He chucks shots, but he makes them. Seriously, ROFL at a 50% TS%, I didn't realize McGrady was that bad.

Timing actually is very important. No matter if you think so or not, the general consensus of a player has a lot to do with the theory of "what have you done for me lately". McGrady's team is playing some of the best basketball in the NBA, and Arenas is on the sideline.

If, for instance, we took this pole last season when many analysts were saying Gilbert (at least at one point) was a top-5 MVP candidate, the results of this poll would be vastly different.

I'll use a quote from nate33, who really put timing into perspective...

It's fascinating how the board has turned on Arenas in his absence. It's like nobody even remembers how good he was for the past 3 years.

There is a myth that Arenas is some kind of ball hog who makes his team worse. That's about the most ridiculous notion ever stated on this board.

Last year, the Wizards were 14.1 points per 100 possession better when Arenas was on the floor. Basically, when he was on the court, they were the 3rd-best team in the East and 7th best team overall (going by on/off differential). When he was off the floor, the Wizards were far and away the worst team in the league. Their on/off differential was -11.4, bad enough to put them 5 points worse than the worst team in the league.

Arenas is hurt right now thus I would probably take T-mac.
