man espn is crazy in the bad way. they never give houston any respect. today's top stories this morning was just lebron going for 50 against the knicks. thats good for him and all but who hasnt gone off on the knicks? if they do talk about houston, stephen smith pops off about "houston will not make the playoffs and i guarantee this" blah blah blah. im glad espn has the schedule or whatever you call it on the right hand side of the screen showing what theyre gonna talk about. if its nothing good, i turn it.

You know whats funny. The PF situation has been so sad for the Rockets in years past that everyone here is overrating Landry. The dude is a good role player. And so is Scola. They aren't all stars. Just really good role players.

They're exceptionally good role players, either of whom could quite possibly get a Dale Davis Honorary Allstar nod some year, one of whom may have potential to be better than that. Most importantly, with our system as it currently is, they're both ultra-efficient at both ends of the floor. You are vastly underrating how exceptionally awesome it is to have 26/14 from your pf spot on 56% shooting with good to great defense, especially given that they should usually (if not for the current injury to Yao) be at least our 3rd, and frequently our fourth or fifth options. They've both only shot under 50% 5 times since January 23rd, Scola's undershoots all being by just a hair. Aside from the Utah game, Landry nearly shot perfect from the floor in January (28-34, in Utah he was 1-6 for 29-40 on the month) who is scoring 28% of his FGs off monster dunks. Scola is downright pfBattiersque.
p.s. you're right though, it's quite possible, although not necessarily true, that some people here are overrating them. Landry definitely is not the "new face of the rockets" right now. Given what they're currently providing though, can you blame them very much for it? Our PF slot wasn't this good during the Barkley years, even he would admit that (he's stated before that he was coasting on fumes by the time we got him), and his defense was never very good. You might have to go back to Sampson or Malone for us to have this much production from that spot. Yes, I just skipped Thorpe. He was pretty close, but what about whoever stepped in during the 10-16mpg he was on the bench? Our only true dropoff right now is on 3rd string offense when Hayes is in.
