Well i think that next year SVG should use more Zone D. We have an excellent shot blocker and rebounder inside. Another advantage is Hedo is from EFES PILSEN. This team is known as one of the best teams in Europe just because of their Zone D(until this year). So Hedo can do better at defense. It will be easier for Shard to fight against the tough guys. Plus Jameer is a bad defender but he is fast. So he can attritibute more. Either Bogans or Evans can be very useful. If Fran Vasquez will join, then it will be great. He is also good shot blocker.
What do you think?
Zone?

we'll this is my rational behind SVG decision to play man to man. We were terrible at rebounding earlier on in the season, and zone defenses are easy to get offensive rebounds off. Sure we might be able to d up better for that possession and hopefully they don't score, but then no one has a body on anyone trying to sneak those rebounds. The magic need to get another rebounder if zones are going to be used. Will Fran be that guy? Wait and see.

1. euro style zone defense is almost impossible to adopt in the nba for two reasons.
2. the nba players do not know how to play it and seem to be reluctant to put some effort into learning it.
3. the defensive three second rule makes it very hard for the frontcourt to rotate when the ball moves from one side to the other or when the ball reaches the high post.

only 10 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists shy of yet another triple double - anonymous

In 8 of the last 10 games, the Magic have held their opponent to less than 100 points (and in 1, the opponent score was 101).
The defense is working just fine!
Further, even thought the Magic have an up-tempo offense (6th in points scored), the defense is mid-pack for points allowed at just at 100 ppg (17th in the league). Again, good defense.
Zone makes sense if on player has a terrible defensive assignment. That happens in some games (e.g. Billups over Nelson). But in most games, what works is working.
