Telfair unlikely to stay?

Post#1 » by karch34 » Thu Mar 6, 2008 10:05 pm

As most of you know I've never claimed to have insider information and as such you can take this for what it's worth.

A close friend of mine works for the moving/storage company where the Telfair's have a lot of their stuff, since they're currently in an apartment.

He's had the chance to talk to Bassy a lot (says he's a great guy). Recently he started shipping all his stuff back to NY and told him that he's feeling he won't be back. 3-4 weeks ago he was sure that he would be, but now he doubts it.

Obviously it's not exactly insider information and things can change between now and the offseason. I just thought it was interesting (and somewhat disappointing) Telfair felt that way.

P.S. Rev, apologies if this violates any "insider info" rules or anything like that.

My first thoughts when reading this were that it's a sign that the FO feels Rose is their guy, and at least one of Bayless/Mayo/Gordon is high on their list as well.

From what you posted, I don't get the feeling that Telfair wants to leave, which is good. Sounds like he wants to stay but he think management doesn't want him. I think the odds are better that he will be re-signed rather than let go.

Maybe he thinks he's going to get paid, thus making it so he can keep a houe in NYC and a condo in MPLS, in which case he's just moving most of is belongings to his main NYC house. Same deal with KG- house in Malibu, Orono, whereever else.

If he's not coming back, there's no reason to ship stuff to NY in the meantime. Why not just wait until he finds out where he'll be signing?

You know, I have talked to a certain pup and he also did not expect Telfair to stay. I asked him who he thought would be re-signed and he said Gomes and Craig, but failed to mention Bassy. At the time I heard it I didn't think it was appropriate to mention because the specific pup's minutes are directly influence by whether Bassy stays or goes.

Now that I heard this from you and put that together with what I heard it seems even more credible.

It wasn't just the context clue of shipping stuff back, Bassy apparently told the guy he doesn't feel like he'll be coming back.

That's unfortunate. At this point I would say Telfair fits the team better than Smith, Gomes or Richard. If they get the #1 and take Beasley, it would be dumb to let Telfair go.

If there's anything to this, it probably says more about how the organization feels about Foye than Rose.

I was thinking that too since Telfair is seeing some decline in his minutes, then again he was being almost burnt out playing so many. The other thought that I had is since he's never really gotten a fair shot elsewhere that maybe it's just going to be more of the same here with Foye back.

For what it's worth I think he'd like to stay here and have some long term stability. Even if we got Rose, I think there's room for Telfair and Foye.

^ I don't see how there would be enough room for Rose, Foye, and Telfair. Even if Foye plays sg full time that only leaves 48 minutes for Rose and Telfair to split. If Telfair stays here I would like to see him play a decent amount of minutes and I am sure that is what he would want too. If we are lucky enough to get Rose in the draft he should get the bulk of the minutes at pg.. Leaving Telfair with 14-18 minutes? That just is not enough.

While this could also be a negotiating ploy from the front office, MIN didn't ask for Telfair in the deal. BOS said they were done with him after he was caught with a loaded gun after being pulled over driving 77 in a 45 zone, then handing the police a suspended license. He also was fined by the trailblazers for bringing a loaded gun on their private jet. Glen Taylor takes these things seriously, but I'm hoping Telfair's grown up a bit.

Someone has to fill the role of backup PG though, even with Rose playing the bulk of the minutes. There still needs to be some sort of insurance policy.

Foye would be the insurance policy in that case. Anyway, now is not the time to worry about filling our backup point guard role.

I'd still prefer to see a true PG on the roster, even if he doesnt play many minutes. It could be Telfair or anyone else.
