Should We Be Shopping Bibby This Summer?

Post#1 » by Rod700 » Fri Mar 7, 2008 3:13 pm

Personally, I like what Bibby is doing for the team, and I think he will only improve as his injury heals (especially on defense). Yet, whether you are a Bibby fan or not may be a moot point. Aside from the trade value he has due to his massive expiring contract, I worry that, even if we want to keep him, he would leave us for a title contender when his contract expires anyway. Most of his career is behind him and he has made his money. I'd understand if he went the route of many veterans and signed with a frontrunner for reduced money and minutes. The question then, is "Should we be shopping him this summer to make sure we get something in return?"

Not this summer.

You wait until the trading deadline to see if he can get you in the playoff race or not.

We really need a big. Trade him for Shelden Williams and expirings. ;)

I like the idea of Bibby and Acie taking the Hawks deep into the plyoffs in a year or two (and a new coach). I don't think he should get a contract as big as his last though.

If Acie develops, you can turn that $13M contract into a solid young PG and a MLE BIG.

Either way it looks like a good situation to be in. Still a very good trade to get Bibby here.

I think it is a safe bet that Sactown explored every possible trade scenario with Bibby. The fact that they took our offer tells me we probably won't get any good offers this summer.

Shop him for what? I don't know if Acie is going to be ready to take over next season... doubtful. We'd still need a point guard. We need more depth but we can move less important peices for that. If we were getting a great offer I'd be OK with it. If the Grizz decided to give us Conley and Mike Miller for Bibby, I'd be all over it. Not gonna happen though.

Certainly not this summer. Maybe before the deadline, but only if it really doesn't work with him healthy.
I hope it will work and we can improve the team getting a defensive big and re-sign Bibby for a lower contract.

Don't be stupid, we should nt be shopping him. AC Law is not ready to take over, nor canhis body hold up. He needs at least another year to be ready for the nba level.

Absolutely we should shop him. He is a solid vet PG with a huge exp contract. I wouldn't want to deal him unless we get a great offer, but we should be SHOPPING him to see what's out there.

We just got Bibby...give the guy some freaking time already....man, we have a bunch of impatient people here.....WE WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.....then you guys who want to shop him will jump right back on his bandwagon.

It's not the issue of playoffs. I just think we should float him this summer and see if we can get something for him. He's a good vet PG with a huge expiring contract and a lot of teams will give up good value for that. We got Bibby for freaking vet expirinings in Lue, AJ, and Lo. Imagine what we might be able to get for him.

I have really liked what Bibby can do for us. I am definetely on the Bibby Bandwagon. But there is a difference between shopping a guy and trying to get rid of him. I just think we might want to float his name out there and see if anyone is willing to give up some good value for him in order to clear cap for next summer. I wouldn't want to deal him unless we got a very good deal out of it.

We must be stupid to shop this guy after he plays half season for us. We got no one to replace him, our management won't take any long term/high salary players back, and we can just see what he can do once he starts from training camp and all that. I think he's a keeper. The only off-season move we could do is shipping J. Smith away in a S&T for Okafor. I'd love that to happen.
GO HAWKS.

WTF- the hawks have a real pointguard for the first time in forever and people here want to move him? Unless you are trying to get back in the lottery next season thats a really lousy idea.

If at the deadline next year the Hawks are ready to wave the white flag and give up on the season then maybe its an option.

How is it that you can ask a question, without suggesting either answer is correct, because you are interested in what other people have to say, and there is always one guy on every thread who wants to build up his ego by calling you stupid? These are truly the most ignorant type of posts. :nonono:

PS: That's not directed at anyone else. I realize all the posts after the one quoted above were directed at other respondents of the tread.

For the money were paying him he is too passive and not the leader w need. I think for our team and Joe's future we should shop him the summer. thoughts

I would definetely be up for shopping JJ. He showed this season he is not the franchise player we were hoping for. I wouldn't deal him unless the offer was a very good one.

Please do not take this as trolling, but you guys are 3-7 with Bibby on your team. He's shooting under 400. I would think you'd at least check to see if someone is willing to give you something for him. I don't mean that you'd unload him, but he shouldn't be by any means untouchable.

About the only player I view as untouchable at this point is Al Horford. Billy Knight should pursue any trades, I just don't see Atlanta being able to acquire proper value for Mike Bibby right now, so it's most likely better off to keep him until the trade deadline next year. If a trade does occur Atlanta should be able to acquire better value compared to that of Shelden Williams. The young man didn't have much hope here and he's most likely going to be a headache for the Kings.

The untouchables should be horford and Smith. Everyone else should be shopped to a degree.

And I think people are missing that Bibby could very well walk away and we get nothing at the end of next season, playoffs or not. If we make the playoffs and he has a great season, he is going to command a pretty nice contract and he might not want to resign in Atlanta.

If you look at shopping a guy like him that is both talented AND a HUGE expiring contract, you could, like someone said, get a damn good point guard and a Big.

I personanlly don't think he's doing anything that couldn't be done by another point if Woodson ran the offense the same. Yes, some of the cross court passes and the pick and roll have been smoother because of his ability, but the biggest change is that they are taking the ball out of Joes hand and spotting him up on other spots on the court. And he is one of the better spot up shooters in the NBA. Joes recent explosion and Horfords for that matter have been a result of both an offensive adjustment and Bibby.

I think we can get a guy that can play and distribute like him. I wouldn't be opposed to TJ Ford actually(I know...injury prone...but at the same time....Bibby....)
