Hackett and Jackson are not as good as Brown, but they don't have to be. As it stands right now, Brown is a 1 or 2 for the Eagles...Hackett or Jackson only have to be a solid 3 for the Eagles.
I guess that you think more of Brown than I do. He's a guy who does OK between the 20's, but isn't some kind of dominant red zone guy...kind of like...Kevin Curtis. We need a touchdown-maker - and Fitz is that guy. If it takes Brown to help make that happen, I'm on board. Brown is, IMO, like a decent quality 2 or 3 in the NBA...you can find guys like that...what you need is a guy whio can score in the "guts" of the game (in the "red zone")...and just as the Sixers eventually need a guy who can score the ball in the half-court late in games in May, the Eagles need a guy who can turn FG's into TD's...and Brown isn't that guy.
Fitz is.
I don't disagree with you that this may actually work out well for the Eagles...the Cards will need to do something, and the Eagles are one of the only teams who have the $$$ and the assets to make a deal.
I would just rather trade Brown than the 19th pick...that's all. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

I like the Lito + Reggie for Fitzgerald trade better than the Lito+2nd rd pick trade I heard a couple of days ago. Reggie Brown is at best a 3rd WR on a good team while Fitzgerald is easily a top 5 receiver IN THE ENTIRE NFL. Having Fitzgerald on the field would upgrade our entire staff of WRs increasing the productivity of all of them making a 4th WR potentially be able to tear up the league while Fitzgerald is being double teamed.
Also us getting Fitzgerald IS NOT AS SIMPLE AS A TRADE, either way Larry has to RENEGOTIATE HIS CONTRACT. The Eagles are banking on Larry NOT wanting to take less money from the Cardinals BUT accepting less money from a team like the Eagles in a "resign for less and trade" or possible even a "trade THEN resign for less" scenario.
The Eagles need a 2nd round pick for a young prospect with REAL POTENTIAL to be an impact player in this league, Reggie Brown is not an impact player in the NFL. He's just a decent/pretty good player at WR that the Eagles are looking upgrade with one of the BEST players at WR.
The Eagles need a return specialist in the worst way as well as a Safety prospect. Brian Dawkins SHOULD NOT start at FS this year, he should be moved to SS where I believe he could play another 3-4 seasons. I don't believe that Dawkins has another full season left in him at FS, his foot speed and range have diminished too much to be anything more than just "good" at that position. But at SS I believe that Dawkins will continue to have a MAJOR impact on NFL games.
The Eagles need a stud prospect at RB, they wasted a pick last season on that RB out of Penn State, that guy lacks the foot speed, the vision, and the moves to be a starting RB in the NFL and he doesn't have any more power than Buckhalter behind his pads. I remember reading a story about how Trotter was teaching him how to run behind his pads and finish plays. That's all that needs to be said about that RB. I believe that Andy Reid got "pressured" by the fans into selecting a running back like him last draft, because we all know how the Eagles needed a power RB, but that guy wasn't the right choice. I hope that Buckhalter isn't cut "just to make room" for him to play without him winning the job FIRST.

That is such a dumb trade.
I just don't understand it.
Why the hell do you trade the number 1/2 receiver on your team for another receiver? Unless they plan on drafting a WR, i don't like that trade at all.
Fitzgerald is great and Curtis had a really good season, but to me, Fitzgerald, Curtis, and Brown is more scary than Fitzgerald, Curtis, and Avant? Baskett? So you double cover Fitzgerald and press Curtis at the line and you leave the big, scary possession receiver Jason Avant wide open for the 8 yard gain? So what?
To me, Fitz, Curtis, and Brown is very similar to Moss, Welker, and Stallworth (which worked quite well this past season).
I mean, it's dumb to complain because if the Eagles got Larry Fitzgerald, I'd be ecstatic, but as of right now, I don't like the idea of trading Reggie Brown for him. It's not even that I value Brown that highly because he has never lived up to his potential, I just don't see how trading him for a WR is smart. If we need a receiver, why trade one to get one?
whatever, though. i kind of doubt that article has any validity whatsoever.

Just stick to being a football fan because you don't know much about the game with being scared to trade away Brown(a 3rd WR) for Fitzgerald (a top 5 receiver in the entire NFL). If a team double covers Fitzgerald and press covers Curtis then who is going to cover Westbrook out of the backfield? Is it going to be a linebacker?
TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Eagles with Westbroook, Fitzgerald, and Curtis catching passes will be dangerous, then you add in a hopefully healthy LJ Smith running down the hash marks with a linebacker on him and it's TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!
You have to see the bigger picture, WR aren't the only players on the field catching passes, Buckhalter is also a threat. Fitzgerald will open everything up because you HAVE to account for him, with a 3rd WR like Brown as a starter the opposition was able to focus on Westbrook and Curtis or blitz an extra defender. With Fitzgerald a defense HAS to atleast play honest or pick their poison, Westbrook or Fitzgerald... TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BtW the Eagles aren't "trading a receiver for a receiver" they are "trading receiver for a playmaker." The Eagles suck at getting playmakers out of the draft.

Getting a home-run hitter is hard, and we should do everything possible to get him.
If we get Fitz, Brown becomes at best a 2/3...if not the outright 3...and we can find another 3 in FA or the draft. We cannot find a 1 in 2008 in FA or the draft - we tried with Moss (which tells me all I need to know about how the Eagles feel about Brown as a 1/2).
If we can trade Lito and Brown for Fitz...to have a REAL touchdown-maker in the red-zone at the WR position (which clearly Brown has not been), I am all for it. We can get a 3 in FA or the draft to replace Brown.

Now, girls...can't we all just get along?
I do hear where you are coming from, Nofx....Brown is a nice player, and I am sorry if I sound too cavalier about just letting him go. But, IMO, 2008 is the year that we are "all in"...after this year, McNbb's contract really jumps...they franchise LJ (to my knowledge, the first time that they have franchised somebody that they really want to keep)....we can only realistically get one more solid year out of Runyan and Thomas (and by trading Brown, they could use #19 (or their 2nd round pick) getting another OT in the draft.
If we got Fitz, I would have wood until September.

yes, it was sarcasm.
and as i said, i'm sure that once i saw fitzgerald in a game for the eagles, i wouldn't care that they traded brown for him. but until that point, i would not be pleased.
i hear what you're all saying about how having fitzgerald, curtis, westbrook, smith, and whoever the 3rd is would be great, but so would having all those guys and reggie brown. that would probably be a lot better than those guys and avant or those guys and baskett or lewis or whoever. i think brown could easily have a 1,000 yard plus season with curtis and fitzgerald. then again, he could easily have a 550 yard season as well. so whatever. it's a moot point until anything happens.

The Eagles are in a nice position either way. You want to be great at something...right now, they could be great on defense with 3 very high level corners, and the offense will need to be addressed via the draft which is more difficult. If they get Fitzgerald, they could really have a great offense, and can pick up another DB for the nickel/dime packages which is much easier to do than drafting a stud WR.
There's so much discussion on this one that I'd be shocked if the Eagles don't do what it takes to get this done b/c they will be second guessed all season otherwise. "They let Moss and Fitzgerald get away??" Right or wrong, that will hang over their head if they don't get deep into the playoffs.
