Rockets waive Gerald Green
Man I remember on draft day, the Lakers were actually thinking about taking this guy over bynum. I know he has been waived and traded a lot, but this guy is way too good to be out of a job. I seen boards from Minny and Boston that say he is good but lacks motivation. I think under Kobe he would flourish,a nd be a nice back up and eventual replacement for Kobe if he learns to play under him. He is still really young, and Im assuming would come cheap.

I'd love the Lakers to pick him up. Perfect understudy to Kobe, plus we might be able to use some athleticism with Ariza's return in doubt.
I think this could be another "real steal" type of pickup for the Lakers. They were allegedly looking for ways to trade up into the draft and get him too, after selecting Bynum.

He's 22
Is it really this easy to throw dirt on a young man's career? He just turned 22 in January.
Green's a long, athletic swingman. He can finish well and hit the three. He does need to become a smarter player, but his biggest problem is one not of his doing: he's been stuck on teams that haven't sniffed success or the playoffs (save for his cup of coffee with the Rockets).
The team has an extra roster spot. It's after March 1st so he can't be used in the playoffs. That's fine. Sign him for the minimum, get him on the bench and in practice learning the triangle. Let him learn what it's really like to play winning basketball. If it works out he'll be a great backup for Kobe who also had gotten a little extra tutelage besides summer league and camp. And keep in mind this - Sasha may just get a free agent deal in the offseason that's too big a price for Dr. Buss. If so, Green will come cheap.

Re: He's 22
I thought the significance of March 1st was that a player that was traded had to be realeased by the team that gained him before march 1st in order to be resigned by the team that traded him away and still make the playoffs because of the 30 day waiting rule. other wise Sam Cassell would not make the playoffs with the Celtics because he singned with Boston on the 3rd of March or Barry would have signed with the Suns instead of just sitting at home still waiting to sign with the Spurs.f0gman wrote:Is it really this easy to throw dirt on a young man's career? It's the waiver deadline
From the salary cap FAQ:
Cassell was placed on waivers Feb 29, which made him eligible for the playoffs as a FA pickup. It took the weekend for him to clear waivers, then he was signed Tuesday.
March 1 - Players waived after this date are ineligible for the playoffs

Yeah, an athletic and defensive stopper in the wing!
Wait, are you talking about Ariza?

The rule is he has to be cut by his team before March 1st to be eligible to be picked up for a playoff roster.
Cheers.
