OT: MVP Discussion, other awards discussion
OT unless you think Sessions should be ROY or Gadz should be MVP.
But Lebron is having one heck of a season. Hard to believe in year five, we're already so used to his domination that it doesn't surprise anyone when he averages 30/8/7, while willing the Cavs to a respectable record. He's been average 40 points over the past three games, and has had all sorts of buzzer beating clutch plays. Must be fun to be a Cavs fan right about now.
Props to Chris Paul also for putting together a great season that gets overshadowed a bit by Lebron.
Al Horford should be the ROY. Averaging 9.8 and 10, which should probably be a double double by the time the season ends. Playing very consistent ball on a team that has lacked stability for years.
Sixth man goes to Ginobili.

I have problems with giving Ginobili a sixth man award. I know its to the best bench player, and Ginobili does fit this description, but he is the 2nd or 3rd option on this team behind Duncan and Parker.
On the other hand, I've also never really been a fan of this award because players who start many games win this award (see Aaron Mckie the year the sixers made the finals), so there often is this "he has to prove that he can step into the starting lineup if needed" aspect of the award.
That said, I think someone like Barbosa epitomizes the sixth man award. Maybe not this year (I haven't followed the Suns much), but he has two legit starters in front of him (Bell and Nash), and comes off the Bench to play an integral role.

I don't like this definition of MVP at all. You are taking the word valuable and using it very narrowly (ie. valuable to his team). You can ask the question: Who is the most valuable to his team? You can also ask the question: Which player is the most valuable to the league? Which player dominates the league (beating other players at his position for example.)
By using the first definition (suffering w/o x player), we can say Chicago was still a playoff team the years MJ was in retirement. Does that mean MJ was not an MVP in other years prior or following this time? The Bulls didn't really suffer without him too much, albeit they didn't win a championship.
This argument unfortunately favors players who play on mediocre, talentless teams, like AI on the sixers when he won it, or Lebron on a Cavs team. Should Bryant not be MVP this year because they got Gasol? I think this shouldn't hurt his chances.
I think an MVP should be defined as one who dominate games and makes other players better, but that team doesn't have to necessarily collapse without him.

The trouble is that even the people who vote for the award use different definitions. Steve Nash won the award twice in a row. What definition was used that he won twice? Nobody thinks he is the best player in the league. The Suns weren't the best team in the league so he didn't win because he was the best player on the best team. He sure didn't have the best stats in the league. He didn't do the most with the worst team because the Suns were far from being bad. His team also wouldn't suffer the most without him. That would be Cleveland without Bron or the Lakers without Kobe. So what definition did the majority of voters use to give Nash back to back MVPs?
