Meh, that I can understand.
5 seconds left. If Stevenson makes it, a CHA player will be fouled with about 4 seconds to go. After we inbound the ball, we'd have a little over 3 seconds to move up the court and get a good shot off, which just wouldn't happen without a player like Gilbert on the team.

Just back from the game. The score shouldn't have even been as close as it was. It could have been because they had no legs after last night, but the Wizards played absolutely no defense until the very end of the fourth quarter. Carroll and Richardson single handedly beat us. Its no surprise that Jamison was guarding Carroll most of the game. Stevenson's defense on Richardson was just as bad until the fourth quarter.

The strategic reason for missing the ft was that we were out of timeouts. Ordinarily, down by two, you hit the ft, then foul immediately. The worst that can happen is that you are down by three with the ball on the side... unless you have no tos and can't advance the ball.
Assuming Charlotte hits both fts (a statistical probability in the NBA), we'd inbound the ball then Charlotte would foul us. That would put us back in the same situation, but with less time on the clock.

P.S: Quick check to the first page and he still has us at 29-31. I think an investigation is in order.
cough...cough...snitch...cough.
I blame miller.

Not sure which one you were referring to but my biggest gripe
about the game which I expressed on the radio show post game
was that we let Matt Carroll beat us by not guarding him. Now
I understand that Felton was penetrating off pick/roll plays which
was causing us to collapse but the thing is, the player who was leaving
Carroll was never really able to do anything productive by leaving
him. NBA players are too good to leave that open, esp NBA like Carroll
who's main (only?) skill is shooting when open. Deal with the penetration
by Felton some other way than leaving a 3 pt specialist open. Esp
after he hits his first 2-3 shots.

That's been a pattern of EJ's for some time. He simply doesn't
seem interested in changing strategies in-game to try to take
advantage of situations like this. It's happened a lot. I understand
that it's not always wise to change what you're trying to do. OTOH,
without JRich, CHA would have had no chance in this game. IMO,
going after him would have been worth a shot.
note - this complaint was NOT accompanied by a call for his (EJ's)
immediate or retroactive dismissal. Or by name-calling. Just
an observation. CHA's coach even left JRich in the game for a
couple min in the first half after he got his 3rd.

Another thing - why didn't any of our "team captain veteran leaders" pick up on this? Even if the coach doesn't order it from the sidelines, it would seem to me that a smart player would notice the situation and try to make a play.
That's what makes EJ's gaffes doubly frustrating. Not only does he make the mistake but he's conditioning his players to make the same mistakes. Then, even if EJ actually wants to take advantage of a situation, it's harder for the players to execute the plan because it's not second nature to them.
