HEDO

Post#1 » by Ryan122 » Sun Mar 9, 2008 6:48 am

I've been reading this board for along time and never really felt the need to post, but i just can't take it any longer. What is with everyone's infatuation with Hedo? The guy is simply not that good. He turns the ball over way to much, and his shot selection is terrible. When he drives to the hoop he never passes and instead he just flares his arms up and hopes for a call or looks like an idiot. He takes shots away from both rashard and d12, and the majority of his assitts come from lobs to dwight. Everyone on this board seems to think he can play the 2, i wish i was smoking the same **** you are because there is now way he could keep up with any SG in EC let alone the entire NBA. The best thing for the magic to do is trade him away for a solid, young PF, sign a starting sg or pg with the MLE, and draft BPA. His contact will be appealing to teams and his value is at an all time high. Let Rashard finally play his natural positio, and run our offense through Dwight. Everyone needs to GET OVER their love affair with Turk!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have you even looked at the win loss column?

last night was Hedo's first bad game in quite a long time. get over it. this is the first season where we can see what is possible. we got battie back next year.

this year wasnt the year to search for an NBA finals.

I love how a bad game is when he shoots 9/17 from the field 3/4 from the line, and has 23 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals... yeah 7 turnovers is bad but it was hardly a BAD game, wasnt his best but as long as his name isnt bryant, james, or jordan and he has such a good contract i would not consider that a bad game... it reminds me of when i watch dwight play and i say to myself "god, dwight is playing like crap today." then i look and he is shooting over 50% and has 15 and 15...

1. evidence: since the media hyped svg-dwight collision, the pick and roll between hedo and dwight has changed form.
2. previously, hedo was taking it to the hoop, no matter what after dwight's pick.
3. for the last few games, hedo is actually waiting for dwight to move toward the rim and they attack at the same time.
4. if hedo is covered, he gives the ball to dwight for an easy two, most probably a dunk.
5. if dwight is covered, hedo finished his layup.
6. verdict: the original poster is not original but some disgruntled hater probably posting under a new nickname.
only 10 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists shy of yet another triple double - anonymous

You have a point maye a mediocre one... although this guy is full of hatred I kind of agree that he needs to finish stronger around the hoop.

Anyway you look at it Hedo does have a great season & there is no shame in giving credit where credit is due... this thread sucks!!!

It will be interesting to see how he will perform in a high intense playoff series where everyone's strengths are neutralized and every weakness is magnified.

Dwight: it will be how he handles the low post double and triple teams and FT shooting.
Jameer: his size will be exploited by the bigger guards
Evans: those open threes he gets will not be so open in the playoffs
Hedo and Shard: will their size be a liability on the defensive end when everything comes to a halting grind in playoff basketball?

These are some things I am looking out for and will be interesting if Hedo can translate his great season to the postseason. I think if he can do that, then any criticism of Hedo is unwarranted.

I think Ryan makes some generalizatons which are incorrect. Hedo averages almost 5 assists per game, and maybe 1-2 of them are lobs to Dwight. That said, there is no shame in being the passer in a lob, because it is not that easy. Hedo is great at it. The fact that Hedo finds him for lobs so often and is a threat to do it from almost anywhere inside the half court line puts tremendous pressure on the defense. The other assists are generally kick outs to outside shooters off a drive (so the comment that he never passes off drives is pretty incorrect). All in all he's a very good and very effective passer.

His assist to TO ratio is pretty good for a guy his size (4.8 to 3.0).

And whether he looks pretty scoring or not, he's effective.

I didn't get a chance to see the game last night, so I can't comment on his turnovers. Can anyone fill me in on how he was turning it over?

Hedo had a sloppy game. So?

The Magic would not be where they are without his all star play this year.

Yeah, he takes a few bad shots, yeah he turns the ball over once in a while..........but, and this is a big but.... Hedo is a playmaker.......to which the Magic have NONE.

Before judging Hedo and his value to the team, lets let this season and post season play itself out.........
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

Hedo is our best passer and Dwight would likely go insane sitting in the post waiting for the ball if Hedo was not around. The OP says Hedo never passes, I think he looks to involve Dwight more than any player on this team, and that is coming from the go to guy.

I literally chuckled when I read this. We wouldnt be a 40 win team right now without, and Im not talkin bout his 2-3 game winners. Hedo has been amazing and does so many things that people overlook. Where would we be without his ball handling ability? I mean the dude is nothing short of brilliant this season.

You're underrating Hedo, but yea, he should be traded. Considering resigning him at the right price will be an issue, and Shard not being able to post up as much as a PF, the best option is to trade Hedo for a PF. We need to trade Hedo for a PF, trade some other pieces for a defensive starting point guard, and make Jameer come off the bench. That would make the Magic a much better team. Maybe we can trade Hedo for a defensive point guard and sign a big using MLE.

Well said, Hedo could play 1-5 since he's tall enough to be a center for a smallball running team (ask DonNelson) and is able to find teammates even on crazy inbound plays (ask Dwight Howard).

Everyone was talking about Diaw's multipurpose talent 2 years ago but nobody seems to know Turk. Oh well :banghead:
