Prime Grant Hill vs. Prime Penny vs. Prime TMac
All three of these players were truly great before their injuries and/or attitude issues. I threw in TMac there because during 02-03, he had one of the greatest statistical seasons ever, albeit only one year. Which of these players was the best at their peak/pre injury form?

That's a tough one with Grant and Penny. . . I'd probably take Grant by a slim margin. If only his ankles never acted up. . .

McGrady
Hill
Hardaway
But we never really got to see much of Penny's prime. He was hurt in like his fourth year, I believe. We're not really sure what he could've become. McGrady, we can see; Hill, we saw.
Not like it matters all that much, they were all perennial All-NBA players.

Battling ridiculous homers one incredibly biased argument at a time.

McGrady, Hill, Penny.
McGrady has established himself among the leagues elite among the SG position. There are only a rare number of his time of players per decade, you have to go with him, hes game is comparable to Kobe, Peirce, LBJ, you really can't find players like that...
Hill was special, he was in his prime in his last yr in Detroit, and he was just a fun player to watch, but he is def > Penny.

Hill never hit his prime. Grant Hill's prime would have been to take over after Jordan retired. Gant Hill is one of the most talented basketball players ever, and I love that his career is back on track with Phx and their HGH using medical staff. Seriously, their health staff is doing something. They have Shaq fine playing 30 mins a night, they have Amare still flying out the gym after microfracture, Grant Hill never getting hurt, and Jalen Rose also was healthy when he was on the Suns.

Grant Hill was a freaking stunner as a healthy player, of course; he was a pleasure to watch.
I tend to agree with you tsherkin, all 3 of them are great passers, and great defenders as well, but McGrady Has the ability to shoot the basketball and hes way much better scorer, this is why i give him the edge over hill, penny.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

What? All three were great athletes and passers, but none of the three were ever great defenders. Hill was a little above average as a three, McGrady could be very good but wasn't consistent at it, Penny was a below average defensive player, none were great defenders.

good point, but i still think at the very least they were good defenders.

QFT!
I honestly cannot believe all of the people arguing Mcgrady over Hill. I'm a Magic fan, I saw T Mac during his PRIME, and it was nothing like Grant Hill. He was one of the most gifted athletes of all-time (In the NBA).
Better defender than Mcgrady as well, along with just being a more complete player.

I agree.
Pure Scoring, T-Mac wins this pretty easy.
But Prime Grant Hill helped in so many ways. He was looking better than Pippen, in his all around game. Almost larry bird like, cept without the shot.
Prime T-mac was an awsome player too, so I'd say it was close.
But I'd say
Grant - 1
T-Mac - 2
Penny - 3, but Prime Penny was no slouch. At the time, some people were saying Penny (not Shaq) was the best player on the Magic. So I hate to put Penny 3rd,
but prime, all 3 were gifted players.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!
As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

Did McGrady not do the same for the Magic? McGrady's playoff numbers completely dominate Hills. Hill doesn't have anymore playoff success than McGrady - so why bring it up?Cammo101 wrote:Grant Hill and it is not close. People seem to be short changing just how good Hill was before he got hurt. Take off the rose colored glasses. Just wow.
IMO it's:
1) McGrady
2) Hill
3) Penny
There is no doubt in my mind Mac is on a different tier from the other 2.

Rockets avatar actually. McGrady has gotten closer to an MVP than all these guys, statistically has been superior than them, and has kept this up for a long period of time.Jemini80 wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
Says the impartial guy with a TMac sig and avatar.
What argument could you possibly make for Hill and Penny? McGrady at 28 has already accomplished more in his career than both of these guys.

TMac did not lead the Magic in rebounds or assists that I can recall. Rose colored glasses? I hate all 3 guys.
