Bring him in for mentoring
Farmar has a mentor in D-Fish. Drew's mentor is Cap. Kobe has said in the past that Green reminds him of himself. Why not bring him in to teach him the right way to play? It's doubtful that Green will have the same kind of obsessiveness that Kobe is famous for, but if some of Kobe's legendary work ethic can rub off Green's game will improve dramatically.
The real issue is money. Green probably won't get more than the BAE from anyone this summer, and for the Lakers that means BAE x 2 because of the luxury tax.

with off season moves still to be made (turiaf, sasha, bynum) why not as insurance? depending on what other offers the machine might field, why not go after a de-valued, more athletic longer SG?
I would think Ariza would get mins @ SF backing up Odom. depending what moves are to be Green could be good insurance.

Minnesota cut Urih as well. I wouldn't regard McHale as the golden standard for good sense.
Due to our salary situation and player rotation, I doubt the Lakers would consider him at all.
I think Green will go to whatever team can give him the most playing time, to try to play for a contract. If I were his agent, that's what I would recommend.
Or, maybe this kid has a serious attitude problem.

Werd up son.
And not just that, Green doesn't have any injury bug history that I know of. So...well..bye bye Ariza unless your foot problem magically heals...

Gerald Green is no attitude cancer or a bad teammate, but he's got too much talent to be thrown around the league the way he's been. I for one thought Houston might be the turning point for him but there seems to be some financial concerns he might have that makes him impatient to get a good contract and may be his agent is a b!tch. I've never heard any of his teammates or his coaches give any explanation for not playing him much and this is as much a mystery as anything else to me.

He is a better fit on our team than Coby is.
For those of you who havent seen Green play a lot, think about Kobe's first two years in the league. Thats what Green looks like now, he just hasn't had the direction and coaching of one of the all time greats to mold him into a great player.
Just because we pick him up doesn't mean we have to play him. I would drop Coby in a heartbeat to pick this kid up.
Sorry Coby, I like ya, but I like Green more.

Nope.
Green's little like Kobe was in his first years.
Kobe has always been laterally quick and very explosive going to the rim. Green lacks the handles to take it to the rim and the explosiveness.
He's basically a spot up shooter, who can shoot fadeaways on the perimeters, but lacks the strength and speed to do much else.
Until he improves that, which he hasn't since he came into the league, Green won't be able to accomplish much in this league.
