Neither Collison nor Hansbrough showed a great offensive game in college...no real post moves or a consistent jumper Both scored off hustle and outworking their opponent. You can get away w/ dominating players on the college level with that but its very difficult to do that in the NBA. Collison is one of the few players in the NBA to succeed w/ that. I wouldn't risk a first round pick on that type player. A second round pick...I can see that.
The point is not to write off prospects simply because they're too short or don't have great athleticism. Craig Smith and Paul Millsap didn't have great offesive games in college, and neither is an athletic freak. But they're producing. Boozer, Gomes, Haslem, Glen Davis, Reggie Evans, Leon Powe, the list goes on. There are legitimate concerns about Hansbrough, but it would be foolish to say he has no future int he NBA. He's not a star and not worth a lottery pick, but he's had a better college career than any of the players mentioned above.
