2008 NBA Draft
Who are some players you think Cleveland will look at?
NBADraft.net has us taking Kevin Love. I think Love would be a good choice. He is a good, young big man that we could pair with Varejao in the post. We could also go after someone like Tyler Smith or Davon Jefferson. A PG like Augustine or Collison could rop as well.

Love would be a good choice, but I like Collison the best for the Cavs. I don't follow the NBA draft as closely as the NFL draft, so really I don't know who the Cavs would target. However, since the Browns traded away most of our draft. I might as well start doing my homework on this years NBA class. Just from browsing around this site, most consider it a deep draft?

Looking at where the Cavs are likely to draft, and who is likely to still be around come the Cavs' pick, I'd say these are possibilities (probably half will be available, half won't):
C Kevin Love
C Devon Hardin
C Hasheem Thabeet
F Tyler Hansbrough
F Brandon Rush
F Tyler Smith
G Darren Collison
G Chris Douglas Roberts
If I were to guess at this point, one of those guys will be a Cav. I think one of those guys + Varejao + Boobie + Delonte are some nice complementary players for Lebron. So if we can turn Wally/Snow/Smith/Damon's almost $30 million in expirings, plus adding in a piece like Sasha or something if a team wants, into a formiddable second option for the Cavs, I think we'd be in excellent shape. We'd still have Z and Big Ben as vet big guys still functionable for a couple years, and possibly would be able to lure a guy like Posey or someone to be more roleplayers.

Can't see Love leaving early. Thabeet won't last to the Cavs. Hansbrough probably won't go pro either.
Tyler Smith could have a Carl Landry type impact imo, though he's more SF than PF, whereas Landry's more PF than SF. Darren Collison would be a solid choice if he lasts. I'm not a Delonte West fan. Collison + Gibson would be a better PG combo, and with LBJ being able to hand the ball, Gibson can play a combo guard type role occasionally without having to guard the opposing two guard.
I like DJ White. He's come in focused this year, and has been a beast. NBADraft is listing JJ Hickson in their mock draft. If he enters and lasts to the Cavs, he's easily the BPA imo.

My choice of guys who should be around at our pick is Jason Thompson.
He's a senior who has improved every year and can shoot the jumper and has avg 20 and 10 the last two seasons. He's shot blocker and has good defense. His only knock has been his strength and why he is listed at PF and not C with his size 6'10" 245lbs. Oh and he shoots a horrible free throw percentage which allows him to fit right in.

Its tough to say right now. I havent seen most of the big men that are rated highly. I would love to see CDR here though. I cant wait for the tournament, its the best bball of the year, and a good chance to see some of the players I havent got a chance to watch this year.
If the realgm mock were to occur and Haseem Thabeet or Hibbert were available to the Cavs I would think we would grab one of those two and shore up the C pos. We are getting long in the tooth there.

Another player that has been heralded is Courtney Lee. Would love to get him in RD2 if he can acquire a second round pick somehow.
We have at least one second rounder. It was acquired in the Wallace deal.
