Rashard "We WANT RESPECT!"
Magic Upset Over Lack Of Respect
March 9, 2008 - 11:15 am
Florida Today -
The Orlando Magic have dominated the Southwest division, but they don't feel they have gotten any respect this season, according to Florida Today.
"A lot of the talk is about Boston and Detroit and even Cleveland some, but we want to try and make our statement come playoff time," Magic forward Rashard Lewis said. "Go ahead and sleep on us, label us as underdogs, and we'll be the team to surprise you in the playoffs."
Orlando is the only team in the NBA to beat both the Pistons and Celtics twice this season.
I haven't really followed the magics this season, so i don't got much of a comment other than Rashard making billions of dollars every year.

Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:
"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

It's true that they have not had the media's respect for their team. But Rashard should just say, "We don't care about the Media, when it's all said and done we will have proved them wrong" or something of that sort to motivate his team. It's better to do that than to call our for respect from the Media.

then why do the celtics and especially KG get respect. Hasnt KG only been out of the 1st round once?
Yep, it was when the Wolves sold their future to get Spreewell and Cassell to drag KG out of the first round. Everyone talks about how the regular season means nothing and respect is gained in the playoffs, and then all I hear is about LA and Boston. Two teams who have done nothing in the playoffs with their current group. Double standard much?
As for my Magic, I could really care less what people think, it won't change what happens in the playoffs.

It's difficult to gain respect when you're 1-20 overall when behind after three quarters (learned that today).
Rashard and the Magic will get respect when they deserve it. If they aren't getting it now, then it's probably not deserved (it isn't). I'm glad that Lewis and the Magic are taking an "us against them" mentality, but they shouldn't be publically "upset" over respect issues.

That is what he said pretty much.

I am pretty sure he feels that the Magic should be included in the talk about who's going to be involved in the Eastern fight.
I know we'll hear the double standard of "their record isnt up to much compared to.." and the "regular season doest matter".
Not saying I agree before people jump on the stupid bandwagon and call me a homer or whatnot; but thats what I feel he is trying to say.
Respect as a team and respect in terms of at least acknowledging the only team to beat both Boston and Detroit twice [given that obv eastern teams are the ones with the best chance at that obviously dampens this arguement ... but cavs havent done it], its 2 different things.
We arent talking about respecting a franchise that makes the playoff's every year ala Boston, whoops, I mean detroit, but just at the very least, Rashard and co want Orlando at least recognised as a threat maybe? [suggested by the underdog comments.]
He chose his words wrongly imo, respect commands certain conotations and as I've discovered people will take a 2 line comment at face value rather than dig a little deeper or think for 3 seconds before they comment about it.

The Magic are looked at as the 4th team in a weak weak East. I'd say that the Magic have as good a chance of knocking off the Celtics as the Cavs do. Now I don't think that either team has a great chance but the Magic would definitely make a competitive series out of it, as would the Cavs. The thing with the Magic is that they're relatively young and unproven even when compared with a team like the Celtics because KG, Ray, and Paul have all more success than anyone on the Magic. Add in guys like Posey, House, Brown, and Cassell and the picture becomes even clearer. Not to mention that the C's have a really good stable of young talent in Rondo, Perk, Powe, TA, and Glen Davis.

Yeah, your last playoff appearance had you getting swept but you deserve respect. Whatever, they probably won't even win a series this year since Washington, Toronto and Cleveland are the most likely opponents. Remember, Butler and Arenas will likely be back. Looks like another one and done for Orlando.
