Gerald Green waived
Gerald Green was waived.
Not saying that the Sixers should sign him to a multi year but he could be worth a look (ie a 10 day). Talented player. A little bit of a head case though. Could help in 3 pt shooting.

Two years from being two years away.

not even sure if hes 21 yet...has some potential...needs refinement in his game and some mentoring...
to be fair, mo cheeks has done a very nice job of mentoring young guys and keeping egos in check...seems like he MIGHT be able to control green a little and harness his potential...i personally would love to sign him but i can see why they wouldnt want to disrupt the chemistry of such a good thing right now...still, kid could really help a rebuilding team down the road if someone gets his head straight

by that superb logic, no player ever waived has ever amounted to anything. Which is, of course, untrue.
What player in the history of NBA basketball under the age of 23 has ever been waived by one of the 3 worst teams in the NBA and gone on to become a decent NBA contributer? Let's define "decent NBA contributer" as a prime of career 20 minute per night guy for 7+ years...

And by that prestine logic, no coaching staff has ever made a mistake.
Look, I don't know if Gerald can last in this league. I haven't seen enough of him (particularly defensively) to do so. If you want to describe WHY you think Gerald stinks, that's great. But your logic, IMO, is terribly flawed.

Anthony Parker was waived numerous times early in his career. He's a solid contributor. So was Bruce Bowen (twice). Raja Bell was waived twice before signing with us. Dermarr Johnson was the 6th overall pick, was waived right before his 4th year, and went on to be a solid contributor (not reat, but solid) the next year, averaging 7.1 ppg. Scott Pollard was drafted 19th, waived after his second season, signed with the Kings and had a few years as a key reserve. after being the 20th pick, Kareem Rush was playing overseas last year, and is averaging 9.1 ppg this year. There are plenty of examples.

That's NOT a correct example. Anthony Parker played 2 games for the Sixers in 1998-99 and the Sixers finished 28-22 that short season. In 1999-2000 he played 17 games for the Orlando Magic and they finished the season 41-41. That is a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar cry from being waived by the worst team in the NBA.

Is there an example similar to someone like Green waived from a bad team actually amounting to something?
Beno Udrih
Udrih was waived by the Timberwolves, after being traded by San Antonio.
Now he's the starting PG on the Kings.
He'll more than likely be the starting PG in Sacramento for some time.

I haven't seen this anywhere else but if true (and I assume it is) this has to break Green's heart. He said all the right things and talked about how it was a dream come true to play for his hometown Rockets. Now we're 2 weeks later and they straight up cut him.
Gerald Green is a great example of a young player being overhyped by a fanbase. The Knicks did it with Channing Frye and the Celts did it with Gerald Green. I'm not saying Sixer fans don't do this but I am saying that it hasn't been done to that level.
