Vecsey reports Harris is not coming back

Very quietly, Herb Kohl has distinguished himself as the pits in terms of meddling in Milwaukee. How many owners would be impudent enough to order their coach (Larry Krystkowiak) to stop using the triangle offense?

Senator Kohl also prevented Larry Harris from making any deals. As usual, the KnicksNew York Knicks were the last to know. Twice Isiah Thomas tried to unload Zach Randolph ($48M more for three years) for assorted Bucks.

Taking duplicity to its limits, Kohl has no plans to re-hire Harris at season's end on the grounds his GM stood did nothing.

We kind of already know this is, just more confirmation that we will have a new GM next year. But will it really make any difference unless Herb Kohl decides to back away from the operations?

Well Vescey is reporting it so odds are 75% Harris will be back next year.

Yeah, another puppet coming in. Or more likely just changing offices downtown. :noway:

Seriously, if Babcock is named the replacement, I don't see an end to the losing for this wretched organization. This relates to a topic from the other thread where PP & Deez were talking about draft picks in the Harris era, but Babcock is just as responsible for this team's lousy batting average in the draft during that time period.

Hopefully it's someone who is experienced, not an in-house hire, and someone who has no past ties to Herb Kohl. Very unlikely for that criteria to be met.

Vecsey accurately reported Jerry West's retirement about 6 months before everybody else, with a "don't say that I didn't warn you" disclaimer to it. And he was right.

Just saying.

You guys keep saying stuff like this and I know Vecsey loves to indulge on rumors, but he was dead on exactly correct on the proposed NY/MIL deal with Randolph.

Not that we need his confirmation to know Harris isn't coming back, but you're making him out to be more of hack than it seems he is.

That's like saying "one day we are all going to die". West was old and in a losing situation. I don't think you have to be a reporter to even know he was going to retire or be replaced. Furthermore when Vescey reported it he left no timetable for when it happens so of course he will be right.

I am making a statement too.... Michael Redd will retire one day, "don't say that I didnt warn you"

this is totally shocking. it came out of nowhere. i thought harris was secure in his job for the next milenium. and now there are rumors of his demize? Say it ain't so So , joe.

I would think the smart thing to do would be to make the move now. rather than waiting it out until season's end, If I was the owner of the Bucks, I would fire harris and his staff now and replace him with whomever Kohl plans on hiring so that the new GM can get a good look at the current college talent and also bucks players to make a very wise decision on draft night. I would hate to see Harris as the Bucks' gm on draft night and then replaced a week later as kohl finally irons out the contract details for a new GM. Now is the time for a GM to get a good look at Mayo, Gordon and Beasley.

The NBA combine is a terrible place to get a first impression of a player. The games are played like all star games with players only playing 15-20 minutes at most. you don't get a chance to see the players in pressure situations, or their endurance. tractor traylor was always great for 5-15 minute spurts. and he was great at the combine. But he was owned in every game he played against undrafted brad miller when he was forced to play 40 minutes. The upcoming tournament games are where players like Sessions and Landry proved they are warriors and can contribute. I have very little faith in player work-outs like YI conducted.

If Kohl wants Collins as his GM, hire him now- don't wait.
Although I think Collins has probably told Kohl his terms and kohl doesn't want to stop meddling. Kohl's loss.

The worst possible scenario for the bucks is to hire a new GM after the season and draft is over. kohl obviusly has somebody in mind. Get it done NOW!

PV is wrong more than he's right. In this case he's probably right but he's not saying anything we haven't known for weeks.

When Kohl let Grunfeld go (with a year left on his contract) he made him stay until after the draft. Harris wasn't named GM until after Grunfeld official resigned 3 days after the draft but it was Harris who drafted Ford.

The problem is the draft is so soon after the season ends it's hard to bring someone in.

As Chuck Deez mentioned the other day, we're down two scouts and it appears our GM is gone after the season, so you wonder how the Bucks can possibly expect to be prepared as well as other teams come draft night. Unless Kohl has promised the job to Sund and told him to go deal with it on the hush-hush or something, in which case the better question is why not just make him GM immediately.

Either way it looks like a serious clusterf*ck.

that is why i say, if kohl has already selected his new GM, put him in place NOW. Don't wait another 2-3 months. let him start putting his staff and scouts together NOW. Don't wait.

Did the michigan wolverines wait until after their season ended to hire a new football coach? NO. Did they wait until after all the bowl games were over? NO! get the inevitable over with, and get this train moving. it's 10 years late already.

The worst part about this is that Kohl has to be burning bridges with the league's GMs. Imagine if you're a GM and spend hours on draft night or the trade deadline negotiating a deal, to have the other team's GM to agree in principal but then the owner nix it at the 13th hour. All of a sudden, you've lost your opportunity to negotiate with other teams and you're screwed. Would you ever want to deal with this organization again? Of course not.

Kohl is killing this team.
Please reconsider your animal consumption.

LH is obviously gone...the question he is looking at is whether to to walk away on your own terms or collect as much cash as possible....Del was here last week....from what I am hearing most want him to just leave and not give Kohl the satisfation......if Harris calls a press conference....there will be bucket dumping and it could be epic....he is that frustrated and angry....but he also has to think about his future, so we'll see.
