Weekly Lotto Standings (March 10, 2008)
I'm going to do this as a weekly feature.
Here's all 30 NBA teams in reverse order:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/standings ... asontype=2
Here is our situation:
4. Seattle 16-46
5. New York 18-45
6. LA Clippers 20-41
7. Milwaukee 23-40
8. Charlotte 24-39
As you can see we've caught up to Charlotte but it will take a lot of work to catch New York in the five spot.
Unlike last year, we've got a climb here with only 19 games left. I think our best hope is the 6 slot.

A quick glance makes it appear that both the Clippers and the Bobcats have a worse schedule than the Bucks. I didn't pay attention to road vs home games, but the Bucks look to play a few more 'easy' teams than either of those teams.
Still, I don't doubt the Bucks ability to lose to even the worst of teams. And that has nothing to do with tanking.

At this point, I don't see any prospect within reach really worth tanking for. Outside of the top 2 picks, there really is no defined 'prospect order' if you will. Certain guys could be taken at three right now and just as likely at eight or nine in my opinion. If we pulled a 'Philly' and started winning a few games seeing this team play better basketball, albeit unlikely, it'd give me a lot more confidence going into next year rather than going through another depressing month and a half just to go from eight to six.

The higher the better, though I don't think it means as much this year as it did in the past.
Despite the amazing season, I don't view Beasley as a franchise, top 10 caliber player. He should be an offensive force, but he's not Duncan or LeBron or Ming or Howard or even Oden/Durant. Even Rose isn't a sure-bet to be in that Chris Paul/Deron Williams class.
This is a pretty deep draft throughout the top 10 or so picks. It wouldn't surprise me any if the guy that goes #8 or #9 becomes the top player in the class. There doesn't seem to be a massive gap between any of the top players.
For example, I watched Donte Green this weekend and really liked what I saw. The guy looks like a legit 6'10", he moves well out there, shows leadership. He's viewed as a late lotto pick right now but he's got a huge ceiling and has already shown to be a great performer in a top conference.
I'd love to get a top pick. But I'm not going to feel gut-wrenchingly bad if we don't. There are going to be some real nice options for us throughout the top ten.

I think there is a dropoff after the top 3 (Beasley/Rose/Gordon) but I do agree with DB regarding the lack of superstar potential (I think Beasley and Rose both could be superstars, but is far from a given). If we don't land in the top 3 there isn't much difference between pick 4 and pick 9.
It will be interesting to see how they draft. If they are looking at potential alone, then you're looking at guys like Donte Greene, DeAndre Jordan or Jerryd Bayless. If they are looking for guys where they know what they have and want immediate help to the team, then you're looking at guys like Tyler Smith, Darren Collison, DJ Augustin.
For me, I always like to go BPA, or at least the guy that people think will be the BPA by three years into their career. Of course, we have to pair that with other moves (breaking up the backcourt, moving CV, moving Simmons/Gadzuric (pipedream I know)).

The Clippers had their game won tonight against the Wizards, they were up 3 with like 4 seconds left and Mobley fouled the shooter..to overtime they lose. That stings.
Bright side: Philly & New Jersey won so the playoff talk continues to be pushed further away. Maybe, just maybe this organization can start planning for a better tomorrow. Idiots.
