How would you fix the Atlanta Hawks

Post#1 » by richboy » Tue Mar 11, 2008 1:32 am

This organization probably be the third best team in the East if they just made right decisions on draft day. Instead the moves to draft Childress above Deng and Iggy, passing on Chris Paul, Shelden Williams has left this team running in place. What would your plan be to fix the Atlanta Hawks.

Bibby remains the worst defensive player in the league.
Marvin Williams is nothing more than a role player
Al Horford is not a NBA Center and should be playing PF
JJ is not a #1 franchise player
JS his stats seem better than the player that he actual is. I'm not sure he good on offense or defense.

Trade Josh Smith, and Josh Childress for #1 pick of the draft and hope for Beasly. They need an inside presence, something they don't have. Josh Smith is nothing compared to Duncan, Boozer, Garnett, Stoudamire, Nowitzki

Lots of talk about the coaching but the Players aren't that good. They have no outside shooting. Josh Smith has no true position. They have no center. There PG play is bad. This team is lucky to be in the East where they can atleast have a playoff shot.

As nice as a JJ/Paul backcourt would be... can you imagine Paul throwing lobs to Smith all night? Wow.

need a star Center or PG.

Don't overpay J-smooth no more then 11 mil on average for that guy long term or your team will regret it.

Hard to say but need to trade Biby's expiring in a sign and trade for a franchise player or trade for one outright?

Honestly it's between a rock and a hard place. Joe is a franchise player, J-smooth isn't but he's up there as a player. And Horford is a great addition to a lineup.

But none of their other players have any potential enough to keep to this run of field their at right now. And both Joe + J-smooth + Hartford would be excellent players playing WITH a star. All can play support roles excellently... I just don't know where there going to get that all important star to mold them.

Rebuild around Josh Smith and Horford.
Trade Joe Johnson to the Raptors during the summer for our expiring contracts and draft picks (Rasho, Parker, Garbajosa and two 1sts? Please? :) A man can dream can't he?)

Then the at the trade deadline they can package Bibby's expiring deal ($15 million), Rasho's expiring contact (8 million), Parkers expiring contract (4.5 million) and Garbajosa's expiring contract (4 million) for some new pieces, or let them expire and have a crap load of salary cap room the next summer.

Its not that hard really... just trade for both Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in the offseason.
