Artest for '08-'09?

Post#1 » by Red2 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 9:32 pm

If we don't win it this year how would Ron Artest look in green next year? Yeah, he's a nut and you'd be lucky to get a season out of him but think of what he would bring to this team. He can defend all 5 positions, he can rebound and when needed he can score at a healthy rate. He is an enforcer and he would give Pierce a chance to play at the 2. He would probably make posey obsolete but man what a pickup he would be. He's the kind of player that Red would have taken a gamble on . Now you don't sign a guy like that unless the big 3 sign off on it but he would give you a player who is a legit 6 8 and strong who can guard Lebron, billups, kobe ,Melo etc. It would be like when Red brought in DJ to strangle the boston strangler. DJ was also regarded as a cancer but look how he turned out.

I thought the same thing yesterday, but decided against it because he is frickin nuts. I love his abilities, but I'm afraid he might be too much of a headache.

Also, how willing would he be to not have a starting spot? I personally wouldn't take him because he's just crazy.

IFFFFFF, this team craps the bed and Ray is gettin upset about PT, touches, etc. then move him for whatever(Camby-type big, or Calderon-type backup pg) then sign Ron as a 3. move Pierce to the 2 and the big 3 is now the big 4. but i by no means am advocating
replacing Ray with Ron, just an idea.

Red2.

For shame.

Study Ron Artest's history, first. What's not on the stat sheet.

If you haven't kept up with it, it includes those little things you might do to your beloved teammates like bodyslam Michael Jordan in a summer scrimmage or coldcock (as in deck, knockout punch, when recipient is not looking) former AAU teammate Elton Brand when they both played for the Bulls. If this treatment you and your loved ones are willing to accept, there might be some logic to your proposal. Otherwise, .... zzzzz.

I'll throw another name out there JR Smith. A bit of a lose nut but million dollar ability. FOr a year or two he could help. After all the spurrs won a title with Stephen Jackson.

Ron Artest = Randy Moss. You don't hear teamates complaining about his intensity, desire to win, or play on the court. Though Randy would have never ran into the crowd because someone threw a drink at him. I don't think at least.

But thats in the past. I'll be disappointed if we don't at least attempt to sign him for the MLE. Its not usually nearly so easy to land a player of his caliber.

I don't think we could land him necessarily, but I'd be all about JR Smith. Maybe he's a little bit of a loose cannon, but his game is underrated, he has shown improvement, and he has all the potential in the world. I like him more than I liked Stephen Jackson back in the day...better yet I like him more than I like Stephen Jackson right now. Jackson's career best 37% 3 pt shooting this year is nothing special. JR Smith is equatable to Kyle Korver right now in that arena.

I think JR Smith for two second round picks is a trade thats going to come back to haunt the Bulls in the future.

I also believe he will be a UFA.

This C's team has character, leadership and is a championship team. I can't speak for Artest as I think he has a REAl mental disorder but JR Smith could work here really well.

What about it?

The guy's twenty two years old. Biggest off-court issue was the crash that killed his friend. Is he the only player in the league that speeds around in an expensive SUV? Is he the only one of those players who for whatever reason missed a stop sign? Have we, on this board, never missed a stop sign at least once? The accident was unfortunate and JR Smith was to blame, but it could have happened to one of many other NBA players.

So he's still in the process of maturing. I don't see him as a liability though. George Karl likes to give him a hard time, but I think that can be equated to how Doc Rivers used to give Big Al a hard time, and I think the Nuggs will keep him on board next year. We'll see.

maybe some one with insider knowledge of the league can shed some light on this guy. Billfromboston or one of the Celtics blog guys either the pod cast crew or Jeff. I'd like to REALLY know what the issues are.

JR. Is the better scorer of the two and has a way better jump shot. I also believe JR. is younger. And better we get all high and mighty with a bad attitude let us not forget that Tony Allen beat a guy up at a bar and may or may not have ordered him to be shot.

Number one reason not to sign Artest:

He has bitched about touches at every stop he's been at...the guy does want to win, but he wants to win on his terms...never in a million years would he accept being a bench player and I don't see how he could start without putting KG at the 5 or PP on the bench...

...regardless, touches are thin with 3 HoFers as it is...Artest would completely **** up the equation because of his desire to score...if he had a role player's mentality i'd be all for it, issues and all...but he wants to be a star, not a sidekick...
