SMITH HAS ARRIVED

Post#1 » by airchibundo507 » Tue Mar 11, 2008 1:28 am

ladies and gentleman...we've found our third option scorer

1st Melo = Mid-range Shooter / Post-up Player
2nd Iverson = Slasher / Mid-range Shooter
3rd Smith = Perimeter Shooter/Slasher

he's playing the way he did before AI did...

maybe it's because iverson is on the bench?

regardless...8-0 denver run on the SPURS.

never seen that before.

No doubt we are watching JR Smith mature as a basketball player right before our eyes. I'm seeing something different from him. Being a leader on the court, hustling on defense and playing smart against a tough team on the road.

Lately I've seen more substance to JR's game. In the past I've seen more flash than substance.

If only the star players (AI and Melo) would have played with his intensity these last two games....and dare I say with his shot selection?

I thought Smith had an attitude problem?

Smith had a minutes problem, that has gone away due to his coach not being able to keep him on the bench, due to his character guy LK not producing, and JR showing what he can do given minutes. JR couldn't have picked a better time of year to play smart basketball, now Karl's hands are tied to a certain extent when it comes to his playing time.

JR Smith should have been the bait for the SAC-DEN trade.

JR played out of his skin last night. I'm kinda mad we didn;t end up getting him a few seasons ago for Barry.

And imagine how good he'd be if he got the Spurs refs making BS calls for him? Scary thought.

SMITH EARNING TIME

Karl said J.R. Smith has carved his way back into the Nuggets rotation by playing better defense. The coach admitted, though, Smith's unpredictability and seemingly unconscious decisions to shoot, aspects that have be maddening enough to bench the fourth-year guard in the past, also contain a positive side.

Smith's recent penchant for going on an instant perimeter-shooting spree off the bench has left teams at loss for how defend a player who seemingly is willing to shoot from anywhere inside 27 feet at any time. As more regular minutes have come, Smith, averaging 17.6 points during the past 14 games, has begun to mix up his threes with drives.

"Offensively, he's been very good at getting to the rim, getting to the foul line, which is important to us," Karl said. "And his three-ball is going in at times at a crazy level, a crazy-high intensity."

Most of this article is about Nene returning but look at what Karl said about JR. George karl actually gave JR a compliment on his recent performances. The world must be ending lol. Hopefully karl will soon put him in the starting lineup.

Has he raised his stock on the free agency market enough to where some team might offer him a bit more then we can afford to match?

all because we declined the option. Dumbest F.O. in the league.

they didn't decline an option year on jr.

he was simply becoming an RFA this summer regardless.
the only thing they might have been able to do was offer a contract last summer that would have kicked in next season (sorta like they did with melo). but after smith's dismal playoff performance....it wouldn't have been beneficial for him to accept a low contract, and may not have been beneficial for the nuggets to give him an extension without knowing if he was going to provide a more consistent effort/impact next season.

Well, if JR keeps this up, teams will offer more than the MLE

Well, that is my question. How many of you think that JR has played himself out of Denver's market to ink him to another deal? It would really suck if we let him go elsewhere. I for one, have been waiting at least 5 seasons for this team to get a SG with some size that can play. We now have one/had one all along that can get the job done, and we risk the chance of losing him.

Actually, I think he is the key piece as to how our upcomming offseason will go. If we can keep him in a Nuggets uniform, I think we pretty much bring the team back and only make a trade if it makes us better. If we can't keep him, I think we are forced to make a trade to try and replace him.
