If you were GM, would you trade Shard after 1 season?

4th concussion in 4 years.

The Magic have had two worst signings ever first Grant Hill , now Lewis so please don't had Gilbert to that list enough is enough.

Your kidding right? Last I checked Lewis was getting 18ppg for us, and fitting it perfectly. Not the smartest signing money wise, but we are getting exactly what we expected from Rashard Lewis.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I agree with this post. Until then we are stuck with this overpaid player. :banghead:

Shhh. According to the locals I'm supposed to be only one of two people who thinks that signing Shard to the max matters. Keep this up and they will start saying that you are 9th or 10th user id of the same person.

What Rashard is paid has much to do with his value. Rashard is a better offensive fit than Wallace. Although your better in almost all other avenues of the game with Wallace I could understand picking Rashard over Gerald if all things were equal. Fact is Rashard getting so much more than Wallace makes it a bad choice. I could have signed Gerald Wallace and Nocioni for Rashard's price. I could have traded either very easily if something better came a long.

Rashard helps the team but you can't throw max money at a player for helping. You build around a max player. This team has too many holes to pay someone the max because they can spread the floor.

I would have never signed him in the first place... 23,000,000 through 2013... that is more than Kobe or Shaq.

I guess it is a good thing he is better than Shaq then.

I'm late to the party but no, not until the Magic go back to their recent lottery status and we need a big overhaul/rebuilding plan. Shard, whether we admit it or not, is a big reason the team's coming closer to a 50wins' year.

If you actually read the thread rather than coming in with your "loaded with dumb" nonsense comment then you'd know that plenty of people here admit that Shard is a solid player. Price has and will always be the issue with Shard. Though many will never admit it there is zero evidence we needed to give him the max to keep him and signing him to what we did is a key reason why no one sees us as a contender. real contenders can't be missing a PF and have a questionable starting guard.

Besides there are other equally important reasons why we are better this year. The number one for that is not Shard but the upgrade from Bhill to Stan. His Staff has brought along Dwight very well and there is zero doubt in my mind Hedo doesn't have the season he has without what Stan brought to the team.

Max money was a joke on the fans. Smith was the only bidder for Lewis and he outbid himself and tied the Magic to this contract. Lewis is not worth 20 million a year. He does add some offence to the team, but not to the tune of 20 million a year. Just one major mistake by GM.

Max Power wrote:Now all the sudden Hedo is more valuable than Shard? Eh, Eh. The reason Hedo is doing so well is because Shard is here. If anyone has noticed they're point production isn't that far off from each other.

Hedo benefited from Rashard Lewis playing the PF spot, allowing Hedo to play the point forward. That's why Hedo's number's are up, and a lot of you hacks think Shard is a bust.

Hedo was playing the same position last year.

The team has done well in the weak east, but staying with a core of Howard, Lewis, and Turk will NEVER get out of the 2nd round. No real PF, no ECF. Not being negative or a downer but you can't advance in the more physical playoffs without that PF to protect your big guy. Notice how Howard took a beating by Atlanta, and how it looked scary when he hit the deck that one play? Teams will do that and hope the guy gets hurt cause we have no enforcer on this team t protect him. Even the mighty Shaq had Horace.

You don't need to trade away Hedo to get an enforcer... but if you want to get an superstar thats another story. Good luck finding an enforcing superstar. :banghead:
People need to learn to value what they got before worring about what might be... the glass is half full folks(more than half if you ask me)... This team can do real damage. Just wait & see before you pull the plug.

.

You have nothing to trade for one and nothing to sign him with under the cap. Thats largely because of the max contract of Rashard - thats the point. Unless this is the team that takes us to the Finals nothing else will really justify it. You lock up the team like this when you have a team ready to go all the way.

I just posted this in another thread but it can go here as well.

Like I said before were talking shear production here. The fact is the Magic are paying Rashard this year what Nocioni and Wallace are making combined. YOu want to make a case that he is better than them then fine but make a case that he better than them combined.

Nocioni per 36 minutes 8.5 million (believe his contract goes down in value) 5 years 37.5 million

2007-08 28 CHI NBA 64 27 1709 6.7 15.5 .435 2.3 6.4 .368 3.3 4.3 .779 0.8 5.3 6.2 1.7 0.5 0.7 2.3 4.3 19.1

Gerald Wallace per 36 minutes 7.5 million 6 years 57 million

2007-08 25 CHA NBA 49 49 1928 6.3 14.2 .449 1.0 3.3 .309 5.1 7.0 .721 1.0 4.7 5.7 3.3 2.0 0.9 2.8 3.0 18.8

Rashard Lewis per 36 minutes salary 15.6 million 6 years 118 million

2007-08 28 ORL NBA 64 64 2486 6.0 13.3 .449 2.6 6.4 .404 2.6 3.1 .843 1.1 3.7 4.8 2.2 1.1 0.4 1.7 2.4 17.2

Seriously how can there be any justification for paying Rashard twice more than two guys that outproduce him. You must really think that 3 pointer is worth some serious money.

Wallace does get the concussions now. Thats not the reason he not playing with the Magic though. Fact is the guy coming in to visit if Rashard didn't sign was Gerald Wallace. My bet Otis would have given Wallace the max. I have no proof on that statement. Only that Otis has consistently overpaid for players.

I wasn't talking about the Gerald Wallace signing talk. That's only been debated 501,000 times already on this board. I don't think we're going to find anything new to add. I was talking about you saying you could have signed him and Nocioni. Now that was breaking new ground....

Especially because....

I would much rather have Shard than Wallace and Noc. No need having 2 simular not as good as Shard SF's when we could have the leagues best outside shooter. Noc is a role player and Wallace is one more concussion from joining Steve Young and Troy Aikman in the broadcast booth. You sire, are clutching at straws.
