Well he was one of the most exceptional talents in the league, ever. The guy had great size for a guard, quick as heck, super athletic. Could post people up, had the midrange game and outside game and shot. Had excellent vision and passing ability, & ball handling. Explosive finisher and player. Dude was a complete all time talent. Its a shame injuries robed him of that way too early in his career.

I was just wondering how many triple-doubles Penny had in his career... considering his all round ability he should have considerable amount of them but I can't remember ever reading one... does anyone have the exact number? TheGlyde ?

he will always be, along with shaq, one of the guys who put the magic on the map...great player when he was younger and it's a shame injuries early on in his career brought him down...could have been one of the best guards the league has ever seen

Regardless of his talents, his Magic reputation, imo, will be tarnished by the player revolt, which, iirc, he had a large part in.

Does anyone have an accurate recollection of this?

Penny was the head man for getting Brian Hill fired.. that was the beginning.. then he returned early from a knee injury to play in the all star game, which is the same knee he had reoccurring problems with, some say because he returned early..(97-98).. in 98-99 the lockout season, the magic had the number 2 seed but lost to the #7 seed 76ers. He was traded that summer.

I think those events are what led to tarnishing Pennys career. IMO if Shaq had stayed.. Penny would still be regarded as one of the greats, because in his prime, he was phenomenal.. too bad it only lasted a couple of years

Hardaway, as a captain, approached management after consulting with teammates. This was after a couple of private team meetings.

He is singled out as the primary malcontent, however, Horace Grant, Rony Seikely, as well as most of the team were unhappy with B Hill on many issues. Could you blame the team for wanting to rectify daily misery?

Personally, as a fan, I was screaming fro a change early on that season. When it happened, I was thankful that somebody made a progressive decision by removing Hill.

After Hill's return and then departure last year, can anybody doubt that the first firing was justified?

Horace Grant was great, and I like him as a player, but he has only ever played this game for one reason. MONEY.

I wouldnt care what he has to say about a coaching descision because his motives are BS.

I will say Brian Hill may not have been the man for the job, but the way Penny treated the situation led to him being singled out for the reasoning.

Alot of people felt wrong over how Hill was fired the first time. Mainly because he is such a nice guy, had just taken the Magic to the finals, and there was talk of a player revolt which people didnt like. But the second stint confirmed that he was an incompetent headcoach, and thus was fired somewhat similar. I say both firings were justified at each time. The first time i think people were mainly upset of the player revolt.

He had two for us... he may have had some for Phoenix I'm not sure, but yeah, only the two with us.

My favourite player of all time. I wouldn't even be on this message board without Penny Hardaway. I think he is unfairly treated by a lot of Magic fans and it's time we gave him the respect he deserves for the great things he did with us.

It's a damn shame that he will be wrongfully hated by O-Town fans the rest of his life, when half of those hypocrites don't know the detailed story of our media vehemently and undeservedly attacking Penny after B-Hill was fired. These fans and media still love Shaq.
