Brand's Trade Value
Elton Brand and the Clippers have some tough decisions this summer. They're not close to making the playoffs in the insanely tough Western conference, and that team has so many holes that it might be in both of their best interests to move on.
With that in mind what do you think the Bucks offer if the Clips make him available? Would it be enough to get him?
Bucks trade:Yi Jianlian, Mo Williams, Desmond Mason
Clippers trade: Elton Brand, Brevin Knight
Although I by no means have given up on Yi I think we'd have to make this deal. Our team needs a culture change desperately, and inserting a guy like him would be exactly what we'd need to do it. I think we might even offer this season's pick if it'd get a deal done, especially if the clippers were willing to take on Bobby Simmons instead of Mason.
The major worry though is that Brand would decide to opt out the following year, even though it is extremely unlikely for a team to be far enough under the cap to match what we could offer him. He might be able to force a sign and trade though, which could be devastating to our franchise.

So getting Brand, Amare, Gasol, West, Dirk (among others) wouldn't help this team?
Amare, Gasol, West, and Dirk absolutely....won't get any of those ....Brand perhaps....I am not a world class athlete but have had a ruptured achillies tendon and thats not easy to come back from and keep everything you had...the Bucks need a PG more than anything...those are hard to get, but mostly needed.

With respect I think this screams of chasing our tails around in circles. It starts and ends with us getting a point gaurd, STOP!!!
I will say again, it starts and ends with us getting a PG, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME HANGING ON TO Mo, Yi, AB and HOPEFULLY CV.
Stop the experient or attempt of Mo being our PG for the next five years. END IT NOW and make him your 2 gaurd and let him ave. 23ppg, CV 20ppg and AB 18ppg, giving you your trio of guys for 60 points.
Throw in Yi, who once he gets stronger and more expreince, will be a stud IMO, and Add Ersan Ilyasova and you are set at both the 3 AND the 4. Combine them with a talented PG, and presto! It works, or at least its a start.
In this draft there are some hits at PG in top 11 if you do get one in the draft, but a way above average who could grow in to an elite PG is PARAMONT to our imediate success.
You get me that guy and keep my "core four", it gets us going into the right direction, with a since of purpose. Remeber my Stuckey and Aflalo for Redd proposal you guys laughed at me about? That trade would do just what we need to do to.
Mo will become an elite player at the 2, so to make all of that talent mesh, we need a distrbutor with a pull up jumper who can defend, IOW, a soon to be elite PG.
So...how do we get one? Developing one takes too much time if you start with a non PG as Mo is in his fourth year at the helm. The PG needs to naturally instinctively be a PG, ala Kidd, Paul, Parker, guys it just flows with.
You go get me that player, with Redd, and anyone else on the roster as bait, and include a first round pick, then, and only then will the team's direction "on the court" be righted. Upstairs is a whole nother matter.

In terms of offense/defense differentials, PF and PG have been our biggest problems this year. Which is ironic, since our PGs have the highest PER of any position, yet they get absolutely torched by opposing defenses.

Adding a blue chip PF would be a huge boost to the club, but it all comes down to whether you think Yi can be a vastly better player down the road. And obviously you could also argue that we wouldn't be able to surround Brand with enough talent during his prime to be title contenders. But if you just wanted to make the playoffs then adding a guy like him would absolutely be a big help.

1. He's still only 28 or 29
2. His game is based more on power/strength than it is on explosion
Actually Brand is 29 today....Happy Birthday EB.......I would want to possibly remove Desmond and dump a bad contract.....

Europa has been talking about Brand for a while
I'd make two moves. First would be Mo, Yi, Gadzuric and a 2010 first rounder to LA for Brand.
Second would be Simmons, Charlie V and our 2008 first rounder to the Wizards for Antonio Daniels, Andray Blatche, Darius Songalia and the Wizards first rounder. In this draft target the best player available with the Wizards pick and fill in what we need using the MLE.
So a potential depth chart could be-
Antoino Daniels, D.J Augustin, Ramon Sessions
Redd, Bell
Desmond Desond, Eddy Najera
Elton Brand, Andray Blatche, Songalia
Andrew Bogut, Andray Blatche, Songalia
Or
Beno Udrih, Antonio Daniels, Ramon Sessions
Michael Redd, Charlie Bell
Desmond Mason, Tyler Smith
Elton Brand, Andray Blatche, Songalia
Bogut, Blatche, Songalia

I'm all for getting a new more defensive tough type of PG, but we need a hell of a lot more than that. The last two games with Mo on the bench, the Bucks allowed 60% and 54% shooting. The defensive problems on this roster run deep, very deep.

I think it's much more important for this team to change the culture of losing here than it is for us to get even a superstar at any one position.
I am concerned about his injury as well as him leaving. However, I'm even more concerned that the Bucks will continue to stagnate as we continue to have selfish and lazy players foster a rancid team attitude.
If we can make inroads in this department without giving up Yi or picking up a player without potential injury or contract problems, I'd be all for it. However, I think this might end up being our best option if it becomes available (no doubt that's a major if as well).

The primary components have been Redd and Yi. I think an offer of:
Redd/Yi/Dez/2008 second
FOR
Brand/Maggette
would get the Clippers' interest. If the Clippers weren't interested in parting with Maggette (which would surprise me given how badly they reportedly want to trade him) then offer Redd/Yi/2008 second for Brand.
Nothing will not break me.

I think the Clippers would prefer to obtain Mo and we would prefer to keep Redd. The clips already have Cuttino mobley who is a similar player to Redd, and following this deal they would be in a rebuilding mode which suggests to me that they would not want to make a financial commitment to Redd. Plus, if Livingston comes back Mo would be a great compliment to him, but if Livingston can't come back they could replace him with Mo.
For us, Redd would be a whole lot better playing with Brand, and maybe his effort and hustle would rub off some too. In the deal I proposed, I also had us getting Brevin Knight who I think would be a very good stop gap PG for us, since it's been far too long since we've had a true point guard who knows how to set up his teammates.

Or we could throw Sessions out there and see how he acts. I would be all for getting Brand if we were committed to winning next year, and another big deal to land a good player was to occur.
