Would you sign Duhon ahead of resigning House?

I'm becoming pretty weary of all these Louisiana guys. They have as a whole established a reputation for being unreliable. Also Duhon is establishing something of a Vin Baker reputation if you know what I mean.

Like Bill Russell, Karl Malone, Rashard Lewis, Willis Reed, Robert Parish, Joe Dumars, Elvin Hayes, Antawn Jamison, and Bob Pettit weren't reliable?

It seems like a lot of the recent Dukies though have underachieved ( Sheldon and Jay Williams, Redick, Dunleavy, ect.)

Different players, with completely different roles.

Eddie House, like Tony Allen, is someone of questionable ball handling ability to entrust protecting the ball at the level of intensity in the playoffs, particularly past the first round.

Tony Allen is best suited as a backup shooting guard, though, whose forte is defense with occasional scoring outbursts.

Eddie House is strictly a hired gun, ready to come in for a few minutes, launch some shots, and hope they are dropping. It was his making 4 shots in 4 minutes for 10 points that allowed the Celtics to defeat San Antonio earlier this year.

He's not really a backup point guard on a championship team, but he is a rotation player for when scoring is needed. If House is not priced out of the Celtics available funds, I expect him to be re-signed, though not necessarily promised the role that he has had thus far this season.

Duhon, who I am extremely familiar with, is a scoring vacuum. Not quick enough to drive to the rim and finish like Rajon Rondo and Tony Allen. Not possessing a mid-range jump shot like Sam Cassell or shots off the glass like Rajon Rondo. Strictly a 3 point shooter, but without Posey's ability to hit. What Duhon can do is protect the ball, function like a true point guard, and play on the ball defense. For these qualities, I have more than once suggested that the Celtics attempt to add Chris Duhon as a backup point guard next season.

However, the complication is that Chris can not be guaranteed minutes, with someone like House able to take them. And I would want House back. Just like Tony Allen might take them occasionally, though less, since Chris is a better defender than Eddie House in some ways, but not as much as most on this board would want to credit him.

Duhon would facilitate things for the team more, at the risk of being left unguarded, and on many days unable to make a shot.

What you gain is someone who can protect the ball should anything happen to Rajon Rondo.

My ideal situation next year is re-sign Tony Allen and Eddie House,
add Chris Duhon, and have Sam Cassell sitting on the bench as an assistant coach, ready to put on his sneakers and be activated should injuries warrant it, while in the meantime tutoring Rajon Rondo and Tony Allen on the finer points of court vision, decision making and tactics.

I don't think we would take Duhon - so I wouldn't worry about it. Danny has expressed before how he favours players with offensive ability at every position but the C spot. I don't think Duhon is much of a player on O. Eddie House is a much better scorer for far less dough.

The kind of player we would get to replace House would be another scorer/shooter think more Monta Ellis and Luther Head. There is little need for a pure PG in our offense.

As I said before I think Rondo will develop as a scorer - as he has ability in that regard. He is not the defense/passing only player he is made out to be.

People love to harp on what guys like House can't do. Yes he isn't a wizard with the basketball. But how often does that REALLY hurt you? How often does the spacing from his outside shoot making REALLY help you.

Also, I hope we can somehow benefit from the Bulls' offseason "reshuffling"- Jerry Krause's original plan to lose his way to a championship wasn't a bad idea, the problem is figuring out which draft picks to hold onto. Elton Brand, Ron Artest, Brad Miller, Tyson Chandler and Lamarcus Aldridge have been sent out of town- I wouldn't mind getting Deng or Nocioni into the rotation.

Well seeing how MIL has Mo Williams they clearly would be a team with little interest in spending that kind of money on Duhon. But the Clippers, Nuggets, Cavaliers, 76ers, Kings, Heat, Wolves, and Pacers are all teams that could bring in Duhon, hand him the reigns and consider it an upgrade.

At PG and C, there's almost no such thing as too much depth. Legit guys at those positions are rare, and even when all is good starters commonly play shorter minutes than starters play at the 2, 3, or 4.

Who shoots off the bench?

Duhon is better, but they needs House's ability. You have to get parts that fit.

Exactly! It doesn't make sense to get a guy who clearly commands more money than a role warrants.

The only way I see the Celtics having interest would be Cassell retiring and Pruitt not being in the Celtics plans. I think Cassell will play one more year and help Pruitt develop into a PG instead of the PG/SG he plays like right now.
If Pruitt can play more like a PG he will be the backup for Rondo in the near future. I like what I see for talent out of him, but Doc is right about him shooting too much and looking too much for his shot, House already does that now.

I would imagine if Cassell doesn't retire after this season there will still be interest from other teams in him. Especially, from Denver... So, I can't see Cassell wanting to be a mentor to Rondo and now Pruitt again at possibly less money than what he might can collect as a free agent signing.
