Newble a Laker?

Post#1 » by magicfan4life05 » Wed Mar 12, 2008 2:17 pm

The Lakers are pondering whether to sign free-agent forward Ira Newble, who was waived Feb. 29 by Seattle. A physical, defense- minded player, Newble would be eligible for the playoffs because he was waived before March 1.

yay or nay?
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Exactly, "Ira" is short for "Irina". But I think he would be a good pickup for you. He has some good defense.

I'd rather give Coby Karl the playing time.

I'm cool with Trevor Ariza/Coby Karl, since they can actually play offense too. Plus its hoopshype, therefore its bullcrap. Cleveland is ready to sign once that 30-day waiting period is up.

I think he would be a good fit but we would need to sign him asap to get him in sync with the team. If Ariza comes back in full form than minutes would be limited but if Ariza is not at full strength than he becomes a great addition to the bench. I don't see the harm in picking him up.

Arize is done for the season... We don't even have an estimated return date... Newble could practice with us in the interim to figure out the triangle... I would do the deal but I have heard and read that he is simply going to return to Cleveland...

Any word on his locker room presence, chemistry? If he's a solid glue guy, maybe. If there is any hints of disharmony on his record... late to him

I say go for it. Last chance to sign someone who actually play DEFENSE.

defensive insurance and an open roster spot, w/ the lack of news on ariza, sure why not? I don't pay the bills.

Yup. As long as he is a good chemistry guy, like CC said. We could use a strong defensive body.

I dont think he has a history of being a bad locker room guy. He is a guy that goes to work.. and he defends. I say why not. Especially with Ariza being on the shelf.

im cool with signing him

question which player do you prefer patterson or newble

ruben is a veteran and he can be our "thug"/"enforcer" plus he has a decent offensive game, good post up game, good rebounder but he has a bad reputation, history of you know and can be a bad influence to our young players

ira a veteran, good defender but not as good as ruben, a decent rebounder, a decent 3pt shooter, average offensive game (he actualy reminds me of d george) but doesnt have history of misbehave unlike ruben

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember him and Damon Jones grousing about playing time recently. Didn't they refuse to play late in a blowout or something?

At any rate, Newble would be strictly insurance. His addition wouldn't hurt, but neither would he have any long-term impact. In fact, once Ariza comes back, I doubt he'd ever get on the court.

Newble is good and he only plays defense, doesn't demand/take bad shots, keeps his composure and knows his role and accepts it. I say add him for playoff insurance if we do not want to go for G-Money as a roster filler with potential.

I think the fact they are considering adding him tells you that Ariza is not expected to be back this season.....he is not a great shooter but obiviously a better defender at the three than Vlad or Luke.....which is defenintly gonna be a factor come playoffs....weather it's letting Kobe rest vs. their top wing player on D or facing a team like Boston w/ two premier wing players in Pierce and Allen....I think it is a must do for the Lakers......

He is cheap w/ no ties to salary after this season....Sure he is not great on Offensive but w/ this team he could get some open looks slashing to the hoop and he has the abilty to do that....w / finish... At 6-7 215 he is a live body that don't mind the physcial side of D....just want the lakers need w/ Ariza done as I read it between the lines.....

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
