The problem with scoring 36 points in an NBA game one night is that someone, somewhere, inside your locker room or out there in your team's fan base, is going to look for you to do it again. Do it two games in a row and now they're going to start to expect it.

And the last thing that Mike Dunleavy needs at this point in his career is more expectations.

The last round heaped upon him didn't work out so well. So the Indiana Pacers and their fans would do well not to get their hopes, or set the bar, too high.

Very good article. It's nice to see that some writers are seeing the few positive things we have going for us here with the P's. Mike has played exceptionally well this season. When he comes off of those screens at about 18 feet, he's deadly.

I know I wont heave anymore expectations onto DunDun. I am perfectly happy with 16-19ppg a game out of him. I am not against a team with a superstar, but my preference is a team full of TEAM players who are good characters guys. Hopefully when our superstar contract is off the books, we can get a couple more TEAM player contracts that average 16-19ppg!!!

I doubt it, if for nothing else than the simple fact that there are a ton of great swingmen in the Eastern Conference that are simply better than Dunleavy. Doesn't mean that Dun isn't good as well, but they're simply better.

The only way Junior Leavy makes the A-S team is if somehow the Pacers are tops in the East by the Break, and Obie has the decision to put him on his bench. Otherwise, I don't see it happening. But a lot can happen in 9 mos...

He's going up against guys like Ray Allen, Richard Jefferson, Vince Carter, Danny Granger, Iguodala, LeBron, Deng, Redd, Joe Johnson, Jason Richardson, Gerald Wallace, Dwyane Wade, Rashard Lewis, Turkoglu, and Caron Butler, just to name a good portion of the SG/SF type players he's competing against for a spot. Any given year, 5-6 of these guys may make the all-star team.

The way I see it though, VC and D-Wade aren't making the team unless they get voted on because of their constant injury issues. Luol Deng isn't making any all-star teams anytime soon. Hedo is having a hell of a year but I think it's a fluke honestly. Lebron is gonna get voted on every year. So that really only leaves

Andre Iguodala
Michael Redd
Joe Johnson
Jason Richardson
Rashard Lewis
Caron Butler

Those are the only players I really see being competition for Danny as a reserve. He's obviously not going to get voted on by the fans. I think Danny has a good chance of getting selected as a reserve.

Um...I think D-Wade's essentially a guarantee to be in the All-Star game for at least the next 5-8 years. He's popular enough to get the popular vote, and he's darned good enough to be named to the team every year over Mikey.

Plus, if those guys play as well in the future as they did this year, all those guys you listed are more likely to get selected than Mikey.


Not trying to be a downer. I love how Mikey's played this year, but let's be honest. Mikey's played effectively for just about a year now. He's really got to do it for about 3 years solid before he's going to get league-wide respect, but he's never going to get more respect than Wade and LeBron.

I think you misunderstood me. I in no way think Dunleavy will ever make an all-star game over those guys that I listed. I was making a case for Danny possibly making it over some of those guys. The thing I was saying about Wade not being on the all-star team was based soley on the fact that given his history of injuries, even if he is voted on he may not be healthy enough to play in the game.

i'm glad mike is playing better this year and you all enjoy having him. i wished he'd played half as good when he was with us, but you know, i love having jack and al so i really can't complain. this trade was good for both teams in different ways but it was better for the players and fans most of all. good luck the rest of the way.

Yeah maybe, until Granger demands more money than what he is worth.
