How rare and who will be next to get Season and Finals MVP?

Seeing how rare it is to win both the season and finals Mvp the same year, here is a list of the guys who have done it. Who will be next?

2003 Tim Duncan San Antonio Spurs
2000 Shaquille O'Neal Los Angeles
1998 Michael Jordan Chicago
1996 Michael Jordan Chicago
1994 Hakeem Olajuwon Houston
1992 Michael Jordan Chicago
1991 Michael Jordan Chicago
1987 Magic Johnson L.A. Lakers
1986 Larry Bird Boston
1984 Larry Bird Boston
1983 Moses Malone Philadelphia

Right now, the one who have a better chance is Kobe Bryant.

That would be nice... I still like him as the MVP.

The teams that have the best chance of winning it all this season are Celts, Pistons, Lakers, and Spurs... of course almost any west team could come through.

Billups is far and away the best player on the Pistons but he'd never be awarded the MVP for various reasons. Duncan isn't winning the regular season MVP this season because they are spreading the offense around so well. That leaves Kobe and KG, KG had the bad fortune to get injured over a stretch where his team played Miami, New York, LAC, and Indy so he won't win it this season. By elimination, Kobe has the best shot.

Lebron could suprise but its unlikely. In the next few years Lebron and Dwight Howard will win MVP awards and titles, we'll see if they go in the same season.

I might give Duncan the MVP, why not? He's getting almost 20/12 and his team's winning like it always has. I think he, Garnett and Kobe are the best picks for a season/finals MVP this season. That covers three of the top four, with the Pistons excluded for obvious reasons.

For all we know, it could take a while to happen again though. It's really a difficult thing to call unless it's the '96 Bulls or something.

Kobe I would say has a 5 year window at a chance of a double mvp. But Lebron's Chances are infinite.

Considering that KG turned that team around and they have double the wins they had all of last year and at least a 4 game lead on anyone, I think it is quite obvious he can get as much as the next person.

Kobe looks to have the best shot for the next year or two. Chris Paul might have an outside chance at this if the Hornets can carry their success through the playoffs. Lebron just seems destined to be MVP someday, but the Cavs have a ways to go before they're championship material. I don't think Duncan or Garnett will be winning any more MVPs without crazy team success in the regular season. There doesn't seem to be as much buzz around them.

Rare? How is it rare if it happened 11 times in 20 years from 1983 to 2003? I would have gone with "extremely common."

Right now, realistically the two players with the best shot are KG and Kobe. After that, maybe LeBron if the Cavs make a miracle runs at the Finals, and perhaps even Chris Paul. I'd put money on Kobe and KG though, no one else.

KG is a LEGIT MVP candidate, even if you don't believe/consider it, he IS!

If KG's in the picture, then Duncan should be. Duncan's had a bigger impact this year than KG. Duncan's played in more games, is a better defender, more points, more rebounds. KG has been a little more efficient on offense and has a fraction more assists. But Duncan should be the MVP over KG because he's had an impact in 6 more games, all else being close to equal.

i believe '98 MVP is Karl Malone

but dude don't you know how KG was loyal to minnesota and never had a team around him and how his unparalleled "intensity" is studied by anatomy researchers in ivy leagues.

Well I obviously hope the Jazz win that title, but the Jazz aside (hehe)...

Kobe should get the MVP, but I think the Spurs might go all the way again, and maybe Manu gets the Finals MVP.

PS.. COME ON DERON FOR FINALS MVP! ;-)

Anyways, it's difficult to say, but since I don't see it happening this year, though it's definitely not out of the question, I think it'll just happen to be another year for one of the following:

Kobe
Manu (hey if he has like a 25/5/5 season next year, why not?)
Howard (in a few years?)
Lebron (if he actually gets talent around him in a few years)
Paul (if they get any better, with home court they could definitely have a shot)
Deron (well he's the Jazz MVP for years to come, if they ever overtake the Spurs...)

I'd put my money on LeBron, because it's going to be easier for the Cavs to come out of the East and make the Finals than it will be for the Lakers to come out of the West.
