I hope our streak ends with the Lakers
Mods, please don't move this to another thread because the topic is about our streak ending.
Ok, let me explain myself. First and foremost, I'm a Rockets fan (my sig is pretty self explanatory). I do hope we win our next 2 games but I also hope the Lakers beat us for the following reasons going into the playoffs:
1) I hope the Lakers expose our weaknesses. Our biggest weakness is our interior defense when Deke is out. Teams are getting easy dunks and layups that they wouldn't be with Deke and Yao there to defend. If they expose our weakness, that forces Rick Adelman to think about defensive schemes to use to compensate for our weakness going into the playoffs.
2) I don't want the Rockets to be overconfident heading in to the playoffs. The important thing is that we make the playoffs and it appears we have a good chance of making it. Having said that, the best thing going for the Rockets right now is that everybody believes they are overachieving. They need that mentality heading into the playoffs as well, because it makes them the underdog.
If they beat the Lakers, the Rockets may start to get overconfident and really believe they are the s***. I'd rather have the Rockets as the underdog, with a blemish like a Lakers loss, so they know they have to work hard if they want to go anywhere in the playoffs. Overconfidence leads to disasters like the New England Patriots.
Honestly, I don't care much that we are making history with our streak. I'd rather that our streak ended soon, and us getting further into the playoffs, than our streak being extended but us suffering a first round exit again.

It seems like you aren't entirely convinced with the amount of success we had over the past 3 months. It's almost like the Dallas postseason syndrome.
Hell we have proved that we can win 20 games in a row and that just shows how mentally prepared we're as a team this season.
I am personally tired and sick of us rather being the underdog. Sometimes, you have take your chances to catch the bigger fish when you have the ability to do so.
EDIT: This thread needs to be IBTLed.

No offense but that's nonsense. I don't care so much about the streak as I do getting wins because every single win is crucial at this point, so hoping we lose a game is just madness to me.
Also, I would have to assume(though I may be wrong) that RA is well aware of our lack of interior defense when Deke isn't on the floor. It's blatently obvious. Obviously this will be an issue when facing teams with a strong frontcourt and I'm sure he knows this. Whether or not he makes any sort of adjustments for it is another matter though, but I don't see how losing a game will all of a sudden force him to deal with it as if he already isn't well aware.
I also don't think they're overconfident, nor do I think they would be if they keep winning. I think they are confident, and have great chemistry, and I think they have enough veteran players(Deke, BJ, T-Mac, Battier) as well as a proven coach who understand the situation and will keep them focused on each game at a time. I'm just not too worried about them getting too cocky or somehow losing that chip on their collective shoulder. They still have alot to prove(getting out of the first round for starters) and still have enough doubters out there to prove wrong(especially you T-Mac).
I guess I just don't see how us losing is somehow going to make us a better team, I've never really believed that. I can see your point with the NE analogy but I guess I just disagree.

We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

The funny thing is, alot of NE Patriot fans really believe if they went into the Superbowl at 17-1, instead of 18-0, that would have changed their mentality and possibly, their preparation by alot.
Imagine if the one loss NE Patriots suffere in the regular season was to the New York Giants? I guarantee you the Superbowl would have been played much different by the NE Patriots.

What kind of fan are you? Why are you going against the Rockets? It doesn't matter what happens, I as a Rockets fan would still want the Rockets to win any game that there is to win. I would never go against them for those reasons you stated above. We can find that out in many ways, losing is not one of them. Look how tight the west is right now, we cannot afford a loss.

I just disagree with that idea. I can't for one second believe BB didn't have them focused and prepared, maybe the Giants were just the better team. That's probably why Brady spent most of the night on his ass and made bad passes. They were just an overrated team to begin with. They were tested many times in the regular season when they finally played teams that matched up well with them, and they were able to come out on top. They just weren't able to do it in the most important game. I don't really think it was because they were unprepared, lost focus, or were too overconfident(although yes they were pretty damn cocky IMO). They had guys who had never won a SB before(Moss, Junior) and I find it difficult to believe those guys weren't as motivated and prepared as they could be to finally get a ring.
It's a valid point though I suppose. Still, I'd rather keep winning because every win is important. We're going to lose eventually regardless. I don't think overconfidence will be an issue going into the playoffs.
bunny edit: Most of those NE fans are probably the same ones talking massive amounts of crap all year and are using whatever excuse they can to justify losing in the biggest game to an "inferior" team. Just my 69 cents though...
..(I couldn't stand hearing most of the NE fans spewing their homeristic crap all season long, sorry. I had to vent!).

It's easy to look back and say that you will be more mentally prepared with a loss. But in the end that's just an EXCUSE and it will not change any outcome.
Like Van Gundy said, winning is the only thing that matters.

Man, you don't know what you're saying, your defense is just fine !
Just looking at the boxscore and seeing that you shot only 33 % against Atlanta and still managed to win, that's impressive...
You win because you play defense...the Lakers can lose shooting 48 % when they don't play defense as they should do.

this is the most asinine thread iver ever seen in my friggin' life!!!! WTF? you want to lose to the lakers coz you dont want them to be over confident headin' into the playoffs? what kind of a child are you? these players from tmac to battier to rafer to scola, etc. are all matured players! they know what's right and what's wrong, what to do and not what to do, they've been doin' this for the past 20 games and they never failed! TRUST my friend what you need is TRUST, TRUST this team and you'll never be disappointed.
EDIT.
and pls, stop comparing this rockets team to the NE patriots of yours! basketball is different from football, besides they have different mentality, and shane battier is the Zen when it comes to mental toughness, does the patriot have a shane battier? i believe not

It won't be an issue considering a lot of our players have never advanced past the first round. Plus, we were never considered contenders in the past; with this time around, I am 100% certain that we'll be able to take it to the next level.
