Teams that You Respect but Shan't Openly Due to Fan Base

Post#1 » by PurpleTestament » Thu Mar 13, 2008 5:16 pm

With Realgm there comes the good with the bad. It seems every great team while good can come with a fan base so self-aggrandizing with apparent disdain for those considered unworthy that it makes it pretty darn difficult to openly support the club despite how much you respect them. There are a few exceptions like the Spurs but sometimes these fans are few and far between.

My pick would have to be the Lakers. I think the fans are more humble compared to a few years ago. Losing does that to you. Regardless, they're my team to get passed the Spurs if they're healthy.

And yes, shan't is a word.

The Rockets, whose fans were openly yapping about a "sweep" last year in the playoffs and whose fans have given us the totally clever names of the "Utah Jizz" and the "Jazzholes."

Raptors and Knicks (I respect the Knicks for what they were, not what they have become)

I think every team on this site has some obnoxious fans. It's just the nature of being a fan (short for fanatic).

Nothing good can come from this thread.

Respect the Laker team, loathe their fan base.
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

lakers and celtics because their bases seem to have a sense of entitlement.

Lakers. Its not that I dislike their fans...its more that I dislike the mindless Kobe fanatics who masquerade as fans.

When I think Lakers, Kobe is the only thing that matters. They are one and the same to me.

I respect the hell out of the guy, but between his constant *****ing on EVERY call on both O and D, and some of his fans...I just can't ever like him.

Pretty much all the good teams except the best two (IMO) San Antonio and Detroit. I guess because of all the good teams they have the least number of fans on here.

Ahh the old so called "storied" franchises. They act like they deserve winning.

I'm from Milwaukee and we havent won sh*t in a while, I feel the NBA owes me and my town some da*n talent right now. Stern you better start fixing the draft so my Bucks start dominating. And while you're at it give us some smart decision makers as well.

Lakers.

I want to like them and I do like Kobe, but the obnoxious Kobe/Laker fans drive me away.

Boston. i respect the talent, but you know.

a team i do openly respect is the spurs. yes, i know as a fan of western conference team, i should hate them, but i really admire how consistantly the team plays.

False. That was one (Please Use More Appropriate Word) kid(T-Smac) and maybe one other guy whom I forget(but are both gone now I believe). Once again, all the real Rockets fans, the rational ones(majority of them) never predicted a sweep and don't resort to terrible name calling such as the ones you listed, those few just make the rest of us look bad.

Anyways, I'd say the Lakers as well. I don't like any of their players and never really have(other than Magic or Shaq) but I've always respected them for obvious reasons.

BUNNY EDIT: I'll throw in the Spurs. I actually rather like them when they're not playing the Rockets, but really I just have a great deal of respect for Duncan and the way they run that organization. They've been an elite team for quite a while now and I think Pop is the best coach in the NBA(yes, better than Phil or Sloan or Riley IMO). Even if they're getting old they're still the team to beat basically every year. I don't care for some of their players but the franchise as a whole I respect quite a bit.

Having said that, if we face them I hope we crush them and ruin their hopes and dreams of a repeat and I want to see them drown in their tears MUAHAHHA!

We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.
